Luhur Batukaru Temple is one of Bali's key directional temples (Bali attractions) and a site of pilgrimage for Hindu Balinese. The Pura Luhur Batukaru lies in solitary clearing 1,300 meters above the sea level, all around the Batukaru temple you'll find a garden of flowering frangipani and hibiscus, with a gigantic, inhabited, humid tropical forest all around it. The impressive placed Batukaru is situated on the slopes of Mount Batukaru since the 11th century, which is an especially sacred site, even by Balinese standards. That's why all visitors have to carefully read and abide the temple rules posted clearly at the entrance. The temple is high on the slopes of the mountain and the often misty, drizzly micro-climate here just adds to its undoubtedly mystical atmosphere. Due to the cool climate and high rainfall (has the highest rainfall on Bali), the shrines in this temple are covered by moss

The temple is calm and peaceful, very nice to visit. The location is a bit off the beaten track, not too easy to drive by yourself. The entrance fee was cheap, the staff were very nice and polite.

We visited the temple by hiring a driver and road access is quite narrow. The temple itself is very calm and not many tourists. Worth visit

Quite a trek to get here but an old temple and a quiet one by the standards of other places. Other reviewers talked about a jungle feel. Didn't quite feel that. Up in the mountains it's cooler and quite mossy. Does not take long to...More

As idyllic as possible. You feel the holiness, the nature, the tranquillity. We reached it from the wonderful Yeh Panes resort. Also highly recommended.

Can there be a lovely temple in Bali without thousands of tourists, a hundred souvenir shops outside, touts, guides and an overcrowded car park? Batukaru surprises in many ways - off the main track, the drive to the temple is gorgeous ... through woods, villages...More

This temple is not very big, but it is worth going around slowly and look at some of the older statues that had lost some of their finest detailed due to the elements. Don't forgot to go on both the left and right side of...More
