Stayed in Balian for 1 week with the family. The beach is a swell magnet and of all the places visited it was the most consistent and had the best waves of all. The beach isn't particularly beautiful. There are pretty decent eating options. It seems there have been a few shark attacks at this beach in the last few... More

I think leaning how to surf there is better idea than in the bigger congested beaches. There are friendly instructors and rental gear. And a part of the beach that has "beginner level" waves.

The beach is quite rocky and there was the usual rubbish there that is dumped mostly by the river. The water is more for surfing than swimming and not for anyone who is not a confident swimmer.

I found this place by chance as the rain caught up to me while driving a motor scooter down the west coast down from Gilimanuk. Actually a nice lady named Wayan found me as I looked lost and confused. She had me follow her to her villa that she runs with her husband. For 150,000 rupiah I was pleasantly surprised... More

There is a big problem with rubbish which is dumped next to rivers and streams and during raining season has been washed into the ocean. Was shocked to see the beaches both in Kuta and WakaGanga full with washed on rubbish. It put me off. This rubbish is a health risk and hazard and needs to be taken seriously.

Stayed @ Pondok Balian Homestay in Balian beach twice on our trip in Indonesia. We loved it here. AWESOME family homestay with big clean rooms friendly owners and a pool. Great surf, people, yoga and night market on the highway with cheap delicious food.

We had one week of consistently good! My dad was on a stand up paddle board and I, a short board, and it definitely catered to both of us. Their are two main peaks,I stayed on the closer-to-the-shore peak and had great left-handers, chest to head and a half high, but consistent in their form so when a bigger set... More

Balian Beach is on the West Coast of Bali. It is a relatively quiet village with lots of accommodation and restaurants but without the noise and partying of Kuta, Legian etc. The beach is less than pristine but evidently the surf is brilliant. There are many surfers of all ages and from countries all over the world and they are... More

The beach was nice, quite, and good waves for beginner surfers. Not lot of options around this area for surfboard rental (seems to be overpriced as well - 150k for an hour for old broken board). If you are looking for a quiet surf spot, this beach may become your consideration.

The area surrounding Balian reminds me of Bali from about 25 years ago. The beach itself is quite spectacular, black volcanic sand with crashing surf. This beauty can change within one tropical downpour. After a night of heavy rain the river emptied its contents into the ocean. I was absolutely appalled, amazed and saddened by the amount of rubbish that... More
