Great work, and a fantastic opportunity to support the turtles.
We visited the Turtle Project and were shown the egg incubator and the tubs with the one and two month hatchlings. We learned that the project was set up by an Australian, and is privately maintained and supported by the local community. Eggs are collected on the nearby beaches and delivered to the centre. After hatching the baby turtles are released after about 2 months when their chance of survival is improved. There is also a 16year old turtle which was already too old to survive in the wild when donated to the centre. Tickets are 40k and valid for a week. The highlight for me was being able to release a baby turtle into the sea one morning. An additional donation of 100k was gladly made for this unique opportunity. You can name your turtle and receive a personalised certificate. I called my turtle Samson in the hope that he would grow big and strong. Definitely recommend this place!

    Excellent conservation work!
They are doing great work here for local turtle conservation! The place itself is small rather than focused at tourists but it’s definitely worth a look and worth paying the small fee since this goes to support such a good cause. It’s interesting to see the baby turtles before release as well. My only suggestion would be that they consider creating a more enriched habitat for Buddy, a 15-year old sea turtle who was rescued and raised by humans since he was a baby and cannot be released since he wouldn’t be able to fend for himself. Since he will be there long-term, it seems like his tank could be bigger and/or have some enrichment.

    Great project
Good insight into turtles and the dangerous early life they experience trying to survive! Good to see hatchery in operation and read about its work and success. Feeding time is at 4:30 pm – sadly guide we had was fairly perfunctory, not keen to inspire or educate.

My teenage daughter wanted to check out the work done here so we went. Even though the place was small, we must commend the efforts that the staff have put in to maintain this place. It was educational for my child and I. We learned that they had to buy turtle eggs from fishermen, which would have been eaten or sold. There was a 16 year old turtle there which could not be freed because it was reared by humans since young and only recently given up. As we were there at 11am, we could not help to release a small turtle as they did this only earlier in the morning. However, we find that even though we paid a small visitation fee, we were happy to do so as the money went into helping the conservation and rehabilitation of turtles that had been going on for many years now.

Located on Pemuteran beach, part of the Reef Seen Divers Resort. Open between 8am and 5pm, they charge a INR 40,000 entry fee but that allows you to come back anytime over 7 days.

They pay local fishermen to identify recent nesting sites before they are disturbed or predators get to them. They are then incubated and when they hatch out they are put in small tanks until they are large enough to release into the ocean. They have a thirteen year old Hawksbill Turtle, Buddy, who was raised domestically and has never learnt how to fend for himself in the wild - at least he will be cared by people who love him. He loves any attention.

They also let you watch the turtles being fed at 4pm daily.

It is only a small hatchery but worth visiting Pemuteran.

You pay 40.000 ruhpia for entrance and with that you support a good initiatief. There is only 1 bassin with around 50 baby turtles at the time we were there, and 1 bassin with a huge turtle. Net morning we released 1 baby turtle for 100k. They are doing a good job, so lets help them

The initiative is worthy of friendship. The simple act of collecting turtle eggs on the beach to keep them away from predators, managing the hatching and the first stages of life of the babies and then releasing them into the natural environment is worth going to visit the site if only for contribute the entrance fee (I believe 35,000 IDR) to the association.
The story of the "Boomer" turtle is full of tenderness (I leave visitors to the surprise of discovering it on site).
Okay, 1/4 hour is enough. It's cute.

We visited the turtle project as part of a day trip to pemuteran from lovina. We were informed that if we came back at 4.30 it was feeding time or the following day they were releasing a group of the baby turtles. We were told this and signs made it very clear so look out for them if you visit.

We went back the next day and for a 100k fee to support the project we released one of their turtles on the beach. It was a truly amazing experience that we won't forget. A great project that we were happy to be able to support in a small way.

I was very enthusiastic about visiting this place and think that protecting turtles and their eggs is a very admirable initiative on the part of the owner. The visit itself was pretty rudimentary and took about five minutes. The young boy who explained things was difficult to understand and did not seem to understand simple questions that my friends and I posed to him. He also gave totally wrong information concerning the life of Buddy, the large 14-year old turtle there, confusing facts (I learned later) with Boomer, the dead turtle in the glass case. I'd recommend more training for these "guides" to make sure of the details they transmit. We were not informed about feeding time for the turtles, or told that we could return using the same ticket. The owner, Chris, said that he has plans to make a video about the project and the turtles, which would be an excellent idea. He actively works with the local community, educating them and rewarding them financially for their collaboration, as well as supporting the fishermen in other ways.

This was ok to visit and see but a little sad to see the turtles in such small enclosures, especially when the Reef Seen hotel has its own part on the beach that would be much better utilised to facilitate the reintroduction of the beautiful animals back into their natural habitat.

It is a short visit of the facility done by a very friendly lady passionate about the project! You have the opportunity to release a baby turtle in the sea, it's fun and worth supporting the project! Well done and keep up the good work!

Having visited other turtle projects in other parts of SEA, it was easy for us to understand the important - and hard! - work being done here.

Although I don't think many Westerners appreciate how these sorts of things have to work in a country like Indonesia...when we visited, two Dutch tourists thought it was horrific a few adult turtles were being held in tanks instead of released in to the wild...they did not seem to get that locals need to be compensated for rescuing the turtles (who usually destroy their fishing nets, rendering their livelihoods useless) before they can release them back in to the ocean.

They also didn't seem to understand that some of the turtles were sick and recuperating; whilst another had been a pet and therefore will never be able to return to the ocean as it has no means to fend for itself...this turtle is used for educating locals and young children about why wild animals should never be kept as pets...

It would be great if someone could work with this project and help them produce material and information to help Westerners understand the unique challenges faced here, otherwise I think many people would leave thinking it nothing more than a poorly maintained zoo....

This is a tiny relatively unknown turtle rehab project that is well worth a visit. They take turtles and eggs from the locals and rehabilitate and release those that they can and offer lifetime care for those that they can't. We paid Rp 100 000 for a 2 month old turtle on New Years day and released him into the ocean under the watchful supervision of the manager of the project. We named him Chuck Norris as no one messes with Chuck and the poor little guy needed all the help he can get!
