President Harry S Truman took America from its traditional isolationism into the age of international involvement. Despite his power, he never forgot where he came from. Today, visitors can experience the surroundings Truman knew as a young man of modest ambition through his political career and final years as a former president.

First I will start by saying you MUST go to the visitor center to get a ticket for the tour. The movie they show is quite informative as well. Then you drive over to the house, which is about a mile away. There is street...More

You buy tickets in town, then drive to the house, and once you get there, a guide will take the tickets and lead you through. Our tour ended up being private. The gentleman giving the tour obviously loved what he was doing and was very...More

Our interpretive guide (actually an NPS ranger, I guess) was very thorough and knowledgeable. Amazing tour, worth the separate ticket trip and purchase. Warning! NO picture taking allowed, not even non-flash. They are a little intrusive and paternal ensuring you also shut off your cellphones....More

We went to Truman's home which was actually owned by his mother-in-law after we had been to the Library. You only get to see the downstairs rooms, but they were interesting and the volunteer docent enthusiastically told us about Truman's life following his Presidency.

We were very impressed with how everything had been preserved since Bess Truman died! It’s like walking into a time capsule...even Truman’s coat is still hanging on the peg!

The National Parks rep shared so much of the personal and professional lives of the Trumans. We learned a great deal. Then we went across the street to the Noland home (Home of an Aunt and Uncle of Bess). Both very educational. Just an FYI...More
