- Marshall HPhitsanulok, Thailand910 contributionsShop, shop, shop, then shop some moreGarlic lane was recommended online for shopping. It is good but there are many, many great shopping areas, This street runs between JL Padma and Melasti, 1 block W. of Legian. There are lots of souvenir and clothing shops, with some bargains to be had. Haggle if not fixed price. Most of the merchandise is typical Bali souvenirs and clothes. There are also some nice restaurants. I strongly recommend the Bambu shop for jewelry. It is all high quality silver, and silver plated with gold. The designs are unique, and for the quality, the prices are reasonable. My wife bought a beautiful ring. It's a fixed price shop, they don't haggle but if you ask they may give you a discount. The other fun area is a hard to find area called Miss Debbies K mart(not a real K mart-just a name) The entrance is on the West side about 40 meters N of Melasti. Look for Miss Debbie sign. You walk about 20 meters down and alley to get to the shopping area. Check it all out. All the surrounding streets, especial Legian are also good shopping.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 October 2023

- Peter Blythe33 contributionsHome away from homeStayed at Adi Dharma Hotel Legian. We stayed 10 days and loved every minuite.Accomodation is Balinese style which is our preference.Cost was $550 Aus for our stay including breakfast in a Superior Room. Rooms are cleaned daily and the bed was the most comfortable after your days of leasure or action.Breakfast was amazing with huge range of choices.Restaurent was A1 with great choice of Indonesian food as well as Western foods to suit all tastes and priced at a great rate.Swimming pool is great being beside restaurent so food and drinks are easily accessed and delivered to your banana lounge with a smile by this hotels amazing staff.Walk out the front of hotel and on Legian Street and within walking distance to all the shopping you need and abundance of Restaurents.Circle K convenience store outside front gate for all your snacks and drinks.Walk out back entrance of hotel and another miriad of choices for all your needs and a 6 minuite walk down to the beach and Beackwalk Shopping centre which is great for a look and enjoy the air conditioning while having a coffee and a bit of shopping. We used Bluebird Taxis as we found their drivers to be very friendly with the meter going on and no hassle service to be driven to your destination in air conditioned comfort for next to nothing and Taxis are immaculently clean. So all in all 10 out of 10 for us and Adi Dharma Hotel Legian is our choice whenever we visit amazing Bali.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2024
- Lovetravelling57Karratha, Australia1,167 contributionsEverything in one street! You can find just about everything here! Bali Kmart is great as all the items are in one place and prices tend to be a bit cheaper. There is a good money changer just down the lane past the Lokal restaurant. This restaurant is excellent- the icy towels are very welcome in the heat! The Rama Garden hotel is on the corner of Garlic Lane and is very good.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 January 2024

There is no hassle from the shopkeepers and saying "No thanks" is accepted. The whole area is good for just wandering around.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 April 2024
- Rainbow M6 contributionsA hectic, slightly crazy but totally worthwhile and fun way to try the Bali shopping experience! The most hectic, crazy but fun shopping experience for all your lightweight Bali clothing and faux designer slides and handbags etc. Be prepared for some intense haggling! But the stall holders are polite and friendly in general. Grab a bargain and have some fun, watch out for beeping scooters and wild driving, it's a blast and all part of the experience.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024

Just an ordinary expensive place . Been frequenting this street ever since it's inception . Beer has risen greatly in price except the husband day care bar next to Ours Bar. Food prices are ridiculously high as the street caters mainly for Australians. Same old street stalls abound selling tee shirts etc adorened with all the usual pornographic motifs. It's time the Balinese authorities cleaned up that filth that the locals peddle also the local girls who chant " MASSAGE" constantly. Bencongs also hang out in evening just before jalan Melasti. Tourist always gets the blame from authorities for not respecting local culture. Should clean up their own filth first. .Great staff in The Local. Also a good fun night most nights in Legends. Good music and singers Billy's Bar an old established favourite but overpriced

If you want the ‘Bali’ experience of shopping for cheap clothes / souvenirs or restaurants/ bars then definitely worth a wander. Fixed price/ no ‘bull****’ worked for me as I am not into bartering.
The street is very narrow and quite busy so keep your eyes open, especially if you have young kids who are easily distracted when walking along.

As far as shopping goes there isn't much you wouldn't find on Garlic Lane! From Bali Kmart to Hollywood Optical to several smaller markets stalls the shopping is amazing! Bali Kmart is fixed price if you don't like haggling along with Ketuts fixed price shop which is the last stall on the right of the laneway when entering Bali Kmart. There are many really good restaurants as well. The Lokal, Garlic Lane, Blue Moon, Roesemary's and Legends Bar just to name a few. I really enjoyed sitting at the Lokal just people watching. Great atmosphere and I found we didn't get hassled too much to buy things.

We love Garlic Lane. It is great for shopping, eating and people watching!
There are many great restaurants along this street, The Lokal, Rosemary’s, Ours, Garlic Lane restaurant, Pulu’s, just to name a few.
Fantastic shopping with a few fixed price shops if you don’t want to bargain. Many homewares on offer…paintings, linen, Knick knacks etc, as well as many, many knockoff shops. Handbags, sunglasses, shoes, t shirts, sports jerseys. Many dress shops also.
Definitely recommend a wander!

This eclectic street is about a 15 minute walk from our hotel along the beach which is nice. Every time we come here, we make a point of visiting two or three times as it is an interesting place and there’s always something going on.
On this latest visit, they were using a carpark as a pop-up Entertainment area with restaurants and a stage. The live music was very good and really enhance the evening.
Further along garlic Lane you get shops selling the usual tourist things and some very good restaurants. A special mention for Ours restaurant which is our favourite and gets busy, but it’s worth waiting for a table.

The shops are usually open around 8am but if you want to see all the shops you can be sure that they will all be open at 9am and don’t close till about 6pm . If you don’t find a good deal in Garlic Lane your not in Garlic Lane haha enjoy.🐲🙏🏽

Staying at the Dancing Villas in Nusa Dua. How long would it take to travel by taxi and an idea of a fair price would be appreciated.
Do the night markets operate each day, if so what time do they shut.

Its about 20km by taxi and I assume that the toll road will be used by the taxi operator as it is quicker and reduces the distance to the 20km. The trip will still take about 45 minutes depending on traffic and time of day. Genuine Blue Bird Group is probably best but the meter will run until you arrive and you still have to get back. I'd suggest about $25 each way. If I was planning the trip, I would hire a car & driver through the hotel, probably $75 for 10 hours plus tolls, say $80 total plus tip. A good driver can do Garlic Lane and show you some other sights in Denpasar, and through Jimbaran, Kuta, Legian, etc. We just did a similar trip ex Kuta to various sites in Denpasar, then to a seafood restaurant in Jimbaran with final stop at GWK Park and then back to our hotel. I find that I get good value through the hotels, no hassles, good English speaking and understanding and if there is a problem just head to reception before you pay. The market hours at night do not seem to be fixed, closing time seems to be at the whim of the stallholders. Most are gone by 8.00pm and may even be gone by 6.30/7.00pm if business is no good. I have an aversion to night markets; difficult to determine quality and colour. Better in daylight. Enjoy.
