Maybe not many people knows, that Bugbug Village has a heavenly beauty that hasn't been exposed too much. The view is incredible, to the north we can see a panoramic view of Mount Agung, to the east side we can enjoy the sunrise over the White sandy Beach called Pantai Bias Putih, to the south side we can see the small island of Byaha and the island of Paus and to the west side we can enjoy the beauty of the hills around Candidasa.

There are still many places that are not widely known for their beauty. And you can also camp on Asah Hill while burning the firewood, enjoying the beautiful night with the moon and stars. Wow amazing!

I never seen a beautiful panoramic like in Bugbug Village. I recommend you to have visit and enjoy this natural environmental. I will come again. Miss Bugbug village too much.

Over the years it seems that one Balinese village blends into the next, such is the development to cater for tourists and the resultant increase in population from other islands in the archipelago. Many villages manage to retain their traditions and customs and Bugbug, one of the oldest in Bali, maintains a strong cultural lifestyle. The area has some of the best beach areas on the East coast including the quaintly named, Virgin Beach. Our driver told us of a particular tradition that is still undertaken by the menfolk of the village, tatebahan. It occurs each year in accordance with the Balinese calendar. It seems to be unique to the area with pairs of men beating each other with the midrib of banana leaves and may result bloody scarring but the participants cannot hold a grudge. Afterwards a feast is held with offerings to the Creator and as an example of community togetherness. Fascinating.

Bugbug is a little town surrounded by towering mountains, rice fields, and a black sand beach.

The town is not used to tourists. I found everyone very friendly. The children easpecially like to practice their English. The ATM on Google maps is not there anymore and there is no other, or even a minimart, though someone is building one by the beach. There is no one asking if you need a taxi or other service like they do 3 miles away on the other side of the mountain. There is a morning market in town from 6 am to 10am when people buy local produce for the day.

There are two beaches. Virgin beach, also called White Sands, is 2 kilometers over a mountain with great views of the shore line, town, volcanos, and rice fields. This beach is popular with tourists, often on day trips from Candidasa, so there are many little restaurants, beach chair rentals and such.

The other beach, Bugbug Beach, is a fabulously small, beautiful, black sand beach boardered by two tall mountains. There is a road down to the beach through irrigated rice fields, offering beach access. That part of the beach still has its thick, rich black sand.

Further down the beach, past the resort, there are out there everyday collecting the sand and gravel from sunup to sundown. They were fisherman, but the factory ships now make that difficult, and everyone here needs concrete. Sadly, they have reduced that part of the beach to large stones which they also sell. I felt the need to fight this destructive, illegal activity and it is easy to email the Karangasem Provincial Tourism Board one's concerns.

The Bugbug Beach Resort is first class and relatively cheap. Wonderful infrusture and amazing service. Further down the beach is Bali's huge, government run, prawn nursery.

The problem this town needs to address is the illegal sand mining destroying the beach for the town, and for tourists from around the world.

Great views of the village on the drive to the white sands beach. If you really want to see the true Bugbug your driver should take you off the beaten path.....

Bugbug is an old village located in Karangasem east Bali has interesting Balinese cultures, people everyday busy doing their own cultures such as Temple ceremony routines. The village village has the beautiful sightseeing such as the virgin beach the white sand beach, Bukit Asah hill that you can see the beautiful ocean from the top cliff and popular Candidasa Beach. If you would like to see the real Balinese culture, this place is recommended.

Bugbug village is a quiet, quaint, fascinating rural town/community in a valley in the Karangasem area. It is surrounded by lush agricultural land and slices of tropical forest. The local warungs feature "rural"/authentic Balinese dishes that I very much enjoy. The people are very friendly and appreciate visitors efforts to speak some Bahasa. I thoroughly recommend visits to rural areas...........this is the real Bali !!! Visit and enjoy !

Nothing special to see here, asked also at a lady working in a warung where I stopped for some relatively expensive Nasi Goreng. I think it's more the name than what it gives.

The atmosphere is still fairly quiet as not many people know exactly the place, making it the right choice for those who want to retreat from the frenetic city.
