This is usually a day trip, from Shanghai, offered by many tourism companies. It's not so much the distance that makes it far, as the traffic on the highway to get there - especially weekends and holidays. If you can't make it on a weekday, I wouldn't recommend it for what you see and the time you spend to get... More

Lovely day tour to this lovely little attraction. A market town as much as a water town, this was truly a wonderful experience. Plenty of shopping options, food options & cultural experience.

I went here on a tour because it is quite a distance from Shanghai. I was not disappointed. You get to go through the water village in a traditional boat and learn about the history. There are very few residence that actually live there year round and not just tourist season. Our young beautiful gondilierr even sang songs to us.

This ancient water town is truely lovely. The old buildings were astonishing, the history of the place was amazing. Lots of gift shops, food and inns. We went for the day and were not disappointed. A must see when you are in the area. We travelled from Shanghai to visit this quaint little town. Easily fill in 2 to 3... More

This is the place one must visit when you go to Suzhou or Shanghai. I love this place for its ancient rustic beauty and the friendliness of the people here. A place of attraction is not just confined to the natural landscape but also the people that lived in it. Simple modesty, honesty, friendliness, are the priceless attributes that add... More

Yes, it's touristy but I still loved it. Only had a short time because I did it on the way to Nanjing from Shanghai but I wish I'd had a night to spend there to explore when the crowds died down. There was a 100rmb entrance fee which I think is very reasonable given that the village needs to be... More

Come during the night. Take boat ride and tip girl to sing for you. Wouldn't stay here for more than one night unless you are into historical details. Rest are mostly restaurants and gift shops

Ancient white houses, red lamps, surrounded by canals that running through each other, with little bridges over it. A water town that blends together history, culture and nature in a soft mood of peace, a mood that no Venice can compare. To enjoy the most, take a boat tour, and stay over night for its different beauty in the red... More

This place is quite far from Shanghai center, need go by bus around one hour one way. Inside this town main attraction is just shopping for some Chinese traditional stuff and many places to eat of course. However it looks very peaceful and relax. Maybe even can call it little China's Venice because of many beautiful canals and rivers. In... More

I have not done a lot of sightseeing in China but the character of this ancient town is really great. If you are in Shanghai it is certainly worth the visit and I am probably being a bit harsh trying to compare to Venice.
