In the midst of thrilling and riveting history a superb enclave of comfort. Great rooms with lovely views, without the trappings of luxury, as one wants a lodge to be. Besides the opportunity of visits and enthralling accounts of the two battles, Rorkes Drift and Ishandwala, one can walk unaccompanied through the lodge's game reserve, up to the ledge that... More

Overlooking Fugitive's Drift and then the site of Coghill and Melville's grave was an experience that was special. Seeing Giraffes and Impala on the way to and from the Drift, made it even more special.

Get a guide for a tour, at Iswandlwana without one you just wont get the battle history or understand what came to pass (watch Zulu Dawn with Burt Lancaster). Rorke's Drift is the same, however its possible there to do a self tour if required.

We visited both the Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift battlefields where the British suffered one of their most ignominious defeats. It was easy to see how this happened as the British were so exposed and the Zulus knew the lie of the land so much better. There is an excellent Museum detailing all the relevant history

If you visited Isandlwana and Rorkes Drift, then a visit to Fugitive's Drift completes the jigsaw of what happened at Isandlwana

TripAdvisor are mistaken in calling it Fugitive's Drift. There is no actual attraction there but you can be taken there by a guide. The actual attraction the station at Rorke's Drift where another battle was fought not long after the Zulu victory at Isandlwana. All the buildings at the site were built after the battle: the hospital was burnt down... More

Once again international visitors should use a tour guide. If you are into your SA history; the self-guided tour pamphlet works well. A very important site to visit, completing the Anglo Zulu war episode in South Africa. Most enjoyable and well worth a visit.

We arrived at Fugitive's drift on the recommendation of friends to visit "The Battlefields". We didnt know what to expect but were overwhelmed. The tours we experienced of the two battles were inspiring and informative and our guides so knowledgable. The staff at the lodge could not have been more helpful and the meals were excellent. The accommodation was also... More

Well worth a visit after Isandlwana.Unlike Isandlwana you can do it without a guide unless you get a good one who really adds some value.

As part of a South African trip with another couple (one of whom is a history buff with a particular interest in battles) this was the part of the trip I was feeling slightly 'meh' about but happy to go along with. Following on from stops in Capetown, Frenchouk and Knysna (all lovely but could have been anywhere in the... More
