This is the setting of the battle that took place on the morning before the battle of Rorkes Drift (a la the film Zulu). This battle was lost by the British, around 2000 men, overwhelmed by around 20-30,000 Zulus. The graves of the British are...More

Our guide was most informative and the outlook of the whole area is stunning. The memorials to the dead on all sides are beautifully presented.

The battle site is well laid out, with cairns of white stones marking the graves of the British dead. We had a professional guide from Fugitives Drift Lodge, who brilliantly explained all aspects of the battle.

Great piece of history and a must visit site if you are in this part of the world , recommend to take a guide so that the surrounding area and hillside can be explained in more detail in regards to the battle.

A very moving visit to Fugitives' Drift where the few survivors of the battle at Isandlwana crossed the Buffalo River to escape the perusing Zulu Warriors. The memorial to Lieutenants Melville and Coghill is very moving

I would suggest comfortable walking shoes (no sandals or flipflops). In terms of clothing, long trousers are my personal preference if you're walking on trails but shorts should be fine.
