We love the Great Smoky Mountains...spent our honeymoon in the area & have visited at least 10 times in the past 5 years. God’s Great Handiwork with the mountains, sunrises, sunsets, wildlife & nature.
Stop at the Sugarlands Visitor Center just out of Gatlinburg. They are helpful in picking appropriate trails and giving you park information.
They also have a gift shop, and we always stop and buy something to support the park (park has no admittance fee)
We drove through Cades Cove with 4 kids and it was a beautiful drive! We got out and went in old cabins and an old mill. Our kids loved it, ages 5-13. We went on a rainy day and my son slipped and fell in...More
What an enjoyable drive through the magnificent mountains. Well maintained road with plenty of places to pull over for a closer look. There was a lot of traffic the day we were there but traffic moved well.

The best way to get a full picture of the area is to use the Gatlinburg/Smoky Mountain guides which they will send to you. The weather will be a lot cooler than Texas so plan on layering your clothes. So much to do that every member will find something that will excite them. The above suggestions are all inclusive so pick and choose! My husband did a zip line - he's retired senior and loved it! Dinner theater at the Hatfields and McCoys was good. Opry music was terrific. Just driving through the park is relaxing and enjoyable. Dollywood for the kids; the Island for the adult shoppers. You will probably find a week is not enough time in TN! Have fun and consider your next trip to the area.
