We really enjoyed spending a little time at the museum. It is small, but there is plenty to see and read, and it provides a nice introduction to Silver City history and the area in general. Probably not handicap accessible except for the first floor but other than that, it should be on your list if you are visiting the... More

Nicely restored building to begin with, good info on the walls about the development of the city. Unfortunately, the two staff were not at all informed about their city;expected more.

Love the way it has stayed in its own time frame. Was great to find out it was once a fire station. just a great feel for it!

This gem is just a walk up the avenue from the Visitors Center past shops you may find interesting. The museum is a three story building that initially had a 'twin' nearby but was swallowed by a sink hole. Read about the colorful history of Silver City and surrounding areas and about the great flood in July 1895 that washed... More

This museum is a treasure well worth the visit. Silver City should be proud. The flights of stairs up to the top cupola for the 360-view is a treat. The staff shared that several displays are set up for group tours, schools, and so on. Many cafes and restaurants nearby. All part of a pleasant stroll around Silver City's historic... More

This house is a wonderful example of what early mid-America was like. There are themed rooms of the history of Silver City and the surrounding area. There is a room honoring women in history from that area. Women worked in the local mines! There is a small gift shop in one room. Donate money or buy something. This museum needs... More

Great place to visit to learn about the local history. Has a great collection of books on New Mexico, Silver City, a variety of historical novels about the native American and Hispanic culture of the area, and books on the development of mining in Grant County from late 1870s thru today. Wonderful southwestern gifts in the gift shop by local... More

Concentrates on local history. Explains and documents the terrible floods that ravage the area. Worth a visit. Donations only.

I was greeted at the door by a young man who is a historian. If there's anything in there he doesn't know about I'd be shocked. He's more than willing to answer any questions you have the museum had a lot of history.

Two adults visited on a Friday afternoon. We were welcomed at the door by a very friendly docent who told us about the historic Ailman home that houses the museum. There is more to it than it appears from the outside. There were exhibits about the building and the family that lived there, and the history and culture of the... More
