I've been to plenty of places see jazz performances in NY but nothing quite like here. It's a vintage brownstone and the musicians play in the music parlor. The place looks great, the hostess (homeowner) is gracious and the band when we went were absolutely as good as any you'll see anywhere in NY. There's a fish fry around 10:30 and even that was super tasty ... just eat dinner first because it's more like a midnight snack than full dinner. An intimate, throwback evening with topnotch musicians -- don't miss it.

We so enjoyed ourselves at the proprietor's, Debbie's, home! Mr. Lemon (bassist) was full of amazing stories and cool jazz facts. The musicians were very, very good and gifted us with old and new jazz tunes. The fish fry with amazing coleslaw & cornbread was tasty! Just a real chill, relaxed, and cozy atmosphere. I will return!

At Brownstone Jazz -you will experience the true Jazz music played in a homey and cozy atmosphere of 19th Century Victorian house. Make sure to walk around Bed-Stuy neighborhood which is still one of the genuine places in Brooklyn where you can observe intact and untouched Victorian style. Kym Hampton (Star of the Night) Debbie (owner and hostess) and Eric (ensemble leader) - Thank you very much for wonderful evening!

I bought three tickets via ticketweb and got a “will call” ticket delivery for this venue. I received a email confirmation of the purchase. This place looks like a residential home with no signage when you arrive. We spent $350.00 for 3 tickets and arrived up to one hour prior to performance. No one was there to greet us. We were not allowed in the brownstone to gather our tickets. Is it a home or a place of business on a poorly lit street in a Brooklyn neighborhood. We rang the bell, knocked on the door and called the number on the confirmation email and no one answered. We were not sure what to think. I bought the tickets in February for a May vacation with the family. We love jazz. When I wrote the manager I was told that I deserve no refunds. What a total disconnect. The response I received was very poorly written and incoherent. Beware of this place because I feel like I was taken for a fool. I write this review so I can share with you my experience with this venue. My strong recommendation is to avoid this venue. It is unfortunate but it was a total flop of an adventure.

Response from BrownstoneJAZZ, Owner at BrownstoneJazz

Wow really BrownstoneJAZZ has been in business now for the pass 9 years. We have a 5star rating on any site that mentions BrownstoneJAZZ. New York City Tourism presents the venue as a link for Things To Do list. We are highly recommended, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has placed us in that position. Thank you for your help. It makes me happy to make others happy. Sorry we didn’t get to do that for you. We’ve done a great. I know that words like NO and CAN’T are disappointing but necessary. It can be difficult to purchase anything and not be able to get a full refund if something doesn’t work out on your end. I sure you know that it’s not unusual for Concerts, Theatre or Sports seating to do refunds. Even worse with paid tables and prepared meals involved. Even though I am amicable to transferring tickets so there are no losses to anyone Tickets are not sold from the Venue only on-line. Last minute way of making purchases to a performance is Will Call. Also a little more economical from ticketing agencies. Before you make the purchase you are advised how to redeem which is printed on the emailed receipt from TicketMaster/Ticketweb. A explanation of the event is totally explained online even here on TripAdvisor BrownstoneJAZZ doors open at 8:30 not an hour ahead. That evening we did allow another guest to enter during preparation around 8pm. The Experience starts at 9:00pm. Your VIP purchase allows us to save the table and seats till your arrival. Arriving earlier would give you time to explore our very Historically Diverse Business location. Beautiful and Residential District in Brooklyn,NY. The music venue is inside of SANKOFA ABAN BNB home of BROWNSTONEJAZZ and many visitors from everywhere. It was still daylight outside and a warm evening at 7:30pm when you stated you arrived. There were BBQ’s and neighborhood Holiday fun on the streets of Brooklyn everywhere. At least until door opening hour or even showtime you should have stayed around. Have a cocktail or specialty coffee somewhere near. Visit the Billie Holiday Theatre around the corner from here. Don’t just pick up and leave before the show started.. Than you go try and trash us because you couldn’t get a refund. SHAMEFUL Since you missed meeting me before the performance for wine and popcorn you don’t understand the kind of person that I am, wish is very dedicated to guests but also to the artist. They had to be be paid. So it makes it impossible to give refunds. There is a NO REFUND POLICY as well. The Miles Davis Early Days bought artist like Marion Cowings who performed recorded and wrote lyrics for Miles with piano, bass , trumpet and drummer all world renown local Jazz musicians. Always the best. We are able to bring all of this to you on a VIP level and still a budget price. . If you won’t be visiting us anytime soon Matthew, please find someone on the way to NYC and make them a experience of a lifetime to be from anywhere else. Than don’t forget to contact me DebbieMc. Your purchase will not expire.
