Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I needed an adventure for Sunday - a getaway to take my thoughts from work. First I thought that it's rather expensive experience, but then decided to live a little - and didn't regret.

Chocaholics Rejoice!! Completed a tour of the factory and experienced a wonderful clean, intelligent and positive chocolate experience. Joe and Ann exemplify customer service. I would highly recommend this to older children and adults for the tour. EVERYONE can buy their fantastic products as soon as you walk in!!

Unique experience. Learned so much from the tour about where beans come from, how they are grown, and what Raaka does that makes it a very different chocolate from others I have experienced before. Tour guide was wonderful. Funny, patient and engaging. This is not Hershey's! The chocolate making class was awesome and you get to try tons of samples. Would be an interesting date night or foodie friends night out.
It is about a 15 min walk from the subway at Smith-9th (F/G). Walked it with no problems, but if you are not from NYC, may want to consider other transportation (car?).
Loved it! Wanted to buy it all!

We had a great time doing the tour and Chocolate bar making class. Ann was an amazing guide and was able to answer all questions asked of her. The whole experience was a tremendous amount of fun and I was surprised with how much we learned when I was all over. Highly recommend.

This was a great tour, very informative, which for my 9 and 12 year old, they lost interest. I think this tour would be best for 13 and up. We enjoyed the tastings and learning about all the machinery and information given. We will be back, next time without the kids .

I am not a big chocolate eater but if I do eat it, I appreciate high-quality chocolate and this is the stuff. Raaka is Brooklyn-based and made and being from Seattle, I have bought this brand at my local Whole Foods multiple times and I made the trip all the way to Red Hook just to visit the factory. Don't expect anything fancy, it is still a production warehouse, but they have many samples and well-informed employees plus ethical, high-quality, good tasting chocolate.

Great tour and class on chocolate. Informative and delicious. So much information on how chocolate is made and a variety of flavors to taste I named my 3 chocolate bars I made after my girls

I am not kidding, by the end of the Raaka tour you'll feel like "whoa, I can now tell the difference between craft and mass chocolate, because I saw what happens to beans in detail, and then I tempered and moulded the chocolate myself too!"
(compare this with run-of-the-mill tours you'd get at Hershey or Ghirardelli where someone who never really worked with chocolate walks you past either fake or non-operational equipment, followed by a happy ending at a store with candy, shirts and souvenirs... completely forgetting the initial goal of learning cool stuff about chocolate)
Bottom line: if you want a family attraction with some happy ending -- go to Hershey, but if you want to experience the chocolate-making process by watching and doing... go to Raaka and prepare to learn at ton.

I bought a Groupon and did the tour with 3 friends. We all enjoyed the tour and learned a lot. The samples were great and we all ended up buying multiple bars. Great restaurants in walking distance as well.

This Red Hook Chocolate Factory is a dream come true! They give great tours, including lots of tasting. They have very unique flavors, and lots of tasting. We went on a tour of chocolate plantation some years ago, and this was much better! The entire staff was very friendly, and there was plenty of information shared, but in a fun way to engage the younger visitors. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an off the beaten path Brooklyn experience, and terrific chocolate!
