Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

You would not expect such a monument with large roads leading to it and at the entrance of a large park, in Brooklyn. You almost feel like you are in Paris, except it is quieter and hotter. It is a nice walk from the Barclay Center along Flatbush Avenue to Grand Army Plaza and then into Prospect Park

This is a neat place, but I agree with some other reviewers that I wouldn’t take a special trip. There is an impressive, large arch that memorializes the union army. The arch itself is separated from the general public by barriers because the park service is concerned about falling debris and disrepair. There is also a fountain, a JFK memorial, and it’s close to the Brooklyn library, which is worth a look. Best to see this while walking or exploring the neighborhood. Over 2 miles from DUMBO and the waterfront.

It is easy to see the grandeur that once existed in this plaza. But, it is also easy to see this plaza has been neglected and the local plant life is winning the battle for dominance. If it is ever restored, it will most certainly be a sight to behold again.

Our friends live in this area so we are often here to visit. It is always a pleasure, well-served by the subway, some good shopping and food nearby. The entrance to Prospect Park, plus the big arch. Grand apartment buildings.

The Arch of Triumph, right here in Brooklyn! Commemorates the Civil War, of course. Lots of monuments to the Civil War here, so it must have been a big deal. This is an impressive entrance to Prospect Park and up the hill along Flatbush.

Gorgeous European-style structure welcoming oncoming traffic to Prospect Park. A great meeting place in Brooklyn!

The plaza includes the Soldiers' and Sailors' Arch which is fascinating, it reminds me of Europe. The Bailey Fountain, the John F. Kennedy Monument, statues of Civil War generals Gouverneur K. Warren and Henry Warner Slocum are incredible if you're a fan. If you've never been to the West Indian Day Parade I highly recommend that you go to the park where you can walk out to the street and get a really great view of all the floats as they pass by. There's a library directly across the street I believe that's the Grand Army Library. I've been to the parade three years in a row and I always choose to stand by the park as there's a train station that's about maybe 200 yards to the actual Parade route. So make sure you cameras are fully charged as you'll get a lot of good pictures of the parade as well as walking through the park.

Bring your bike, and bike thru prospect park. Sometimes you can enter the arch and go up top. The Central Library, Botanic Garden, Brooklyn Museum of Art
and Prospect park are all in this area. Saturdays there is a lovely Farmers Market and at time entertainment for the children. Take a walk thru the shops in Park Slope and grab a coffee and sweet at one of the many coffee shops in the neighborhood.

The Holiday Inn in downtown Brooklyn is only a 10 minute walk to Grand Army Plaza. It’s highly rated a comparatively inexpensive for New York prices. It’s located at 300 Schermerhorn St, Brooklyn, NY 11217.
