I live near by and walk through the neighborhood often. This is a small enclave of a larger neighborhood, Flatbush. Beautiful area with Tree lined trees with large Victorian homes by the Q train. The Q train area by New Kirk Plaza and Courtelyou has plenty of coffee shops and food. Walk down to Coney Island Ave and you will be in Little Pakistan with plenty of restaurants or go towards Flatbush Ave for some Caribbean fare. For people coming from outside of New York City this is not something new because you may be used to seeing suburbia life. But when you walk around you may find some hidden gems and interesting neighborhoods close by. For locals, it is astonishing to see a neighborhood of this nature in the middle of Brooklyn. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend for tourists on short trips so skip this neighborhood. If you have time then it may be worth a trip for a few hours.
I recommend coming in the morning and having brunch from Milk & Honey cafe or trying some of the bagel or coffee shops around.

I do recommend New Yorkers to stop by this neighborhood and visit a cafe because it something unique for NYC neighborhood standards.

Also, I wouldn’t pay for a walking tour in this neighborhood. You’ll be disappointed. Just take the Q and get off on the stops I mentioned. Lastly, there isn’t an actual park called Ditmas park in the area so don’t come thinking there’s a park. It’s a residential neighborhood a few blocks away from Brooklyn college and a 10 mins drive south of prospect park which is the closest large park.

One of my favorite areas of Brooklyn. I live right near it, so I often go running here. It truly feels as if you've left the city, provided you get away from Church Ave. Gorgeous mansions, all with very large wrap-around porches (oddly, I hardly ever see anyone in their yard or on their porch). It's a great place to go for Halloween, the houses (one in particular) do an amazing job decorating. Christmas is nice too. If I had to be picky I'd say that this IS a city so occasionally you will see a disturbed person, or someone passed out drunk on a lawn, or some garbage strewn about. But compared to the neighborhoods around it, it's very free of those things.

Ditmas Park is nice place to visit; when you've run out of other choices. By all means, go spend time there is you have family or friends living in the area. It has its own feel and its own vibe: Like every other section of Brooklyn.
But if you only have a couple of days, you'll more likely be spending your time in The City. t's very residential, and has few attractions that, well... Attract.

Ditmas Park is one of my favorite neighborhoods in all of NYC. It's a part of NYC that people never expect - a village-like atmosphere (Cortelyou Road has numerous great restaurants, etc.) along with old Victorian houses and other style that seems more out of the Midwest, not NYC.

I love going to brunch at The Farm on Adderley or taking in a meal at one of the other places on Cortelyou Road, then taking a walk afterward. If you walk closer up to Prospect Park, you'll enter a section called Prospect Park South where some of the houses are a bit grander but the same can also be found in other areas off Cortelyou Road.

All in all, such a sweet area to visit and enjoy.

The homes here are very large and stunning. This is a historic neighborhood with meticulously well kept homes. It has a very suburban feel. The homes in this neighborhood cost well over 1 million dollars.

The park is very good for walk about or to have family picnic, the surrounding trees create the environment that induces you to sit back and enjoy the beauty of nature.

Huge homes, almost all architecturally unique, i.e, very few alike. Massive sycamore trees, with gnarly tree trunks. And, when we were there, gigantic rhododendron bushes in full bloom.

Ditmas Park includes several Q Line subway stops. There is an excellent commercial strip on Cortelyou Road, which includes a number of restaurants and a Food Co-op.

Wonderful place for a long walk, easily accessible by subway, great for trick-or treating on Halloween or for admiring beautiful houses when the flowers bloom in spring.

Ditmas Park is home to some amazing NYC architecture. The stately homes on Rugby Road are not to be missed. If you're visiting the area try some of the restaurants and cafes on Cortelyou. Mimi's Hummus is definitely a favorite. This is a great neighborhood for exploring when the trees are in bloom.
