Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The carousel reopened last week, my daughter who has been numerous times pre COVID couldn’t wait to get back on. They’re taking all precautions and there is a line in weekends but not during the week. So we went on a Sunday early afternoon and she lived getting back on the horse that goes up n down.

An interesting antique carousel from 1922 with 48 wooden horses and more.
All packed in a building made out of glass with great views.

Jane restored this beautiful carousel to its original paint and all. Then gifted it to the city. It is one the of the most beautiful, nostalgic, lovely items to see along with spectacular views of the nyc skyline. It is a mere 3 dollars for adults to ride this masterpiece.
I would suggest parking in Hicks st or Henry street at a meter (or on the street in general) and walk if you have a car. If not, just take the subway.
If you have a day to spare, walk over the brooklyn bridge (from Manhattan) and then visit the carousel below on the brooklyn waterfront.
There are fantastic restaurants and not far from the carousel is the absolutely most famous New York City pizza Grimaldi’s. So, enjoy the carousel.

Thank you for your fantastic review of the Carousel! We greatly appreciate all the kind words as well as details about the Dumbo neighborhood.
I must however make one correction- the ticket price is ONLY $2, not $3 as you’ve noted.
Thanks again! We always love to hear that people enjoy & appreciate the Carousel.
Best, Jane 🎠

I guess they do not want to make a little more profit. How an attraction in a heavily trafficked area closes at 6pm is beyond me! And when they mean they close as 6pm they really mean 5:30pm.
People work, tourists want to enjoy the night view of the city, etc. The fact that they close down at 6pm is beyond me!

We came here as part of a personal tour of carousels in New York City. I have visited over 60 carousels, and I think I have a new favorite. First, there’s the location. True, it’s hard to get to, but very close to being under the Brooklyn Bridge, turning in a glass building so that you can see glorious views of both bridges, the river and everything around them as you turn on the carousel. It’s definitely a unique experience. Next, the restoration of this carousel is meticulously well done. Three of the horses have the PTC logo on them – something that normally only 1 or 2 horses normally carry on a PTC carousel. And they have an authentic 1915 Gebruder Bruder band organ to play their music. Also, its history. Built in 1922 by Philadelphia Toboggan Company (or PTC; its number is # 61, for those who know carousel history), it was in Idora Park in Youngstown, OH until 1984 when the park closed. David and Jane Walentas of Brooklyn rescued this carousel from being broken up by buying the whole thing at the 1984 auction with the intention of restoring it and running it by the Brooklyn Bridge. For many years Jane worked on restoring the horses by herself until land came available, at which point she hired several people to help her. The carousel was ready to open in 2011. Now for the service at Jane’s Carousel: the people running it take great ownership and are among the best trained and friendliest carousel employees I’ve ever met. It’s the first time someone asked us if they could take our picture on the carousel – usually we have to search people out. They were knowledgeable of its details, they were very respectful. And to top it all off: the tickets are actually beautiful collector’s cards! There’s a series, I believe of 12 cards, each one featuring one of the horses. So… there you go. My newest favorite carousel. It would be worth visiting again and again, if I lived anywhere close to New York City.

Was told about this by our Daughter who visited last year. The added bonus for us it was open. Put a big smile on our faces as we took full advantage and went for a ride. $2 dollars each, I would have paid more, The setting is also perfect, right by the river, overlooking the NYC skyline. Please note the ride is closed Monday,Tuesday.

Don't be fooled - this carousel is not just for the kiddies! There something beautiful and nostalgic about riding on a restored piece of art. For the modest price of 2 dollars, you can take a ride into the past, close your eyes and imagine yourself at and olde-tyme carnival, even smell the popcorn and cotton candy. I love that the carousel is enclosed in a large glass building, permitting it to be open all year long - I can only imagine how amazing it must be, riding during the holidays, with a light snow falling outside...Give in to your inner child and take a spin.

Can you get to the park from a train station in Manhattan by bus or Subway? I rode that carousel many times as a child growing up in Youngstown and would really like to ride it again. We do not drive any longer but can take a train from our home in Pennsylvania.

Best to take the F Train (subway) to York St. --the first stop in Brooklyn. It's a short walk (about 5 blocks) from York St. to the Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park, entrance at Main Street.
I recommend coming in the Spring, when the weather is nice.
Hope you'll visit and ride the Carousel again. Lotsa of folks from Youngstown have visited,
Best, Jane
