Two Family Houses, Small Apartment Buildings, Tree Lined Streets and Avenues - - Bensonhurst is a true Brooklyn neighborhood. People talk about brown-stone Brooklyn with houses dating back to the 1880's. But Bensonhurst was the neighborhood to live in for Middle-calls Brooklynites starting in the 1940's & 1950's. Shopping, Dinning and Mass-Transit - - - it's Home.

I grew up in bath beach (bath ave) and moved out after 30 years but left my parents there. The changes are enormous, all 3 movie houses are gone, most Italian restaurants are gone and 86th street is mostly Asian. Cropsey park still attracts many people as does the waterfront. Parking gets worse every year and both Jewish delis are... More

I think it's lost a little of it's charm from just a few decades ago, but most of it seems to have changed over from Italian to Asian. Lots of new restaurants and stores to show that change. It still seems fairly safe, but it's lacking it's bit of beauty.

I grew up on 19th avenue and Bath avenue across the street from the 62nd police precinct. I went to PS 200 and then to Lafayette high school. The neighborhood is so different now. So much has changed. 86th street a few blocks away is so crowded with merchants and shops it's often difficult to get around. Many of the... More

We started with an appetizer of baked clams. They were the worst we've ever had. Warmed over and tasteless. We ordered 2 pasta dishes and soon realized why we hadn't been here in two years; we waited, and waited... for 40 minutes before the pasta arrived. Yes it was a busy night but other, equally good local restaurants have busy... More

Growing up in Bensonhurst was a great experience. Some of my family came here from Italy and had to work hard to raise a family, save money and buy a house. Totally different now. Most of the old timers have moved onto other areas and they come back to visit old friendships myself but I have never lost my link... More

86th Street is the main attraction here. Presently, much of Bensonhurst is now Asian in flavor, and this is reflected in the many shops and food markets in the area. Off 86th, the area is residential, with parks, schools, and libraries. There are also some national chain stores located in the area, and many restaurants. From Bensonhurst, it's possible to... I lived in Bay Ridge when in Brooklyn and would always come to Bensonhurst for Italian food or items on 86th street. This is a classical Brooklyn neighborhood that while not like it has been is a mandatory visit for those looking to truly explore Brooklyn. It is set up on small streets and avenues with small to medium size... More

This is an old, congested neighborhood. Parking is always a problem but there are many conveniences. Many specialty food stores (Italian, Russian) line the streets. At Bay street, the true attraction is found at the start of a long bay side promenade which stretches for several miles, past Bay Ridge, Fort Hamilton and Verizon Narrows Bridge. Do yourself a favor... More
