We took a walking tour of the downtown area, stopping off for lunch at Bobby's Downtown restaurant (which was excellent). There are many stores, pubs, and museums. The beautiful Veterans Memorial is a must-see. The overall ambiance is very pleasant. We were impressed by the...More

We took Airlink's Modified City Tour one morning. Highly recommend. Our driver/guide Linda took us around downtown. She made the area come to life for us.

Visited end of August 2018. Several places to eat and shops to visit. We did not get the real "tourist trap" feeling one gets at other places we have visited. A small older downtown with some newer additions near by. We had a pleasent afternoon.

Downtown had restaurants, museums, and was quaint. Parking could be better. Lots to see. Window shopping you can enjoy native made crafts & local artisans. Indoor small malls & lots of stores.

Had a great time in Fairbanks. Got myself a nice pair of beaver slippers. The furer was great. Traced my foot and made the slippers just for me. Also visited the ice museum. Loved it. Great place to take the kids.

Hard to believe that this is a "big" town in our largest state. But the displays of colorful flowers are truly impressive. only in Alaska.

Pretty by the waterfront and easy walk to cultural center. Visitor Center has a promotion so you can donate and then decorate a dog slipper and then you will be part of the race next March. Support your dog and help your children learn geography!...More

The downtown area could use some revitalization. There are a few highlights, like the Cultural Center and the fountain and river walk, but the area is depressed. There were homeless people, police activity, and a lot of shuttered businesses.

We arrived in Fairbanks too early to check in so we stored our luggage and went walking. We headed toward the Chena River and walked along the river walk. We visited the memorial to the Alaska-Siberia Highway which took place fron 1942 to 1945. Also...More

I did not see any free shuttles. Taxi's were reasonable. Its not a big area. Maybe walk one way and taxi the other.
