More than just a boat ride! Board the Sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery for one of the most unique Alaskan experiences available! This three-hour cruise will take you into the heart of Alaska and introduce you to a family who has made the rivers of Alaska a way of life for five generations. You will see a bush floatplane takeoff alongside the boat, visit the home and kennels of the late four-time Iditarod winner Susan Butcher and see her champion sled dogs in action. Be immersed into the ancient Athabascan Indian culture when our Alaskan Native Guides take you on a personalized tour of the Chena Indian Village.

We arrived for the afternoon tour in time for a delicious lunch of stew, fresh salad, iced tea/water, and double chocolate dessert served family style in a very large dining room. They easily served 500+ people in a very efficient manner. We had plenty of time to eat, shop if we had wanted, visit clean restrooms, and board the riverboat... More

I did enjoy the Riverboat cruise. The tour director was very entertaining and informative. There were a few stops along the way, seaplane demo, dog sled training facility, Caribou sighting, and Athabaskan Indian Village exhibition, where we got off the boat for ancient Indian lifestyle demonstrations. Would recommend if time permitted.

The riverboat cruises have been run by several generations of the same family. We went early in the season so there were "only" about 700 on the multistory boat, so it was very comfortable. They make stops along the Chena River to see a float plane land, see sled dogs and the on the return make a stop at a... More

Extremely overpriced boring and fake ride up a dirty river without any natural beauty! Gift store with overpriced junk from China! Why so many people said it was a must see, I will never understand! Must be their lives are very empty!

The trip started with a float plane taking off, circling the boat and landing beside us. The pilot spoke to us over the boat's speaker system. Farther down we saw Susan Butcher's home. Her husband still lives there and trains huskies for the Iditarod. He spoke to us and demonstrated the dogs power and training as they pulled him on... More

This attraction only starts as a Riverboat ride! Help yourself to complimentary (and delicious!) blueberry doughnuts and coffee to enjoy while you glide past Chena River river-side homes. The Captain narrates the journey, and you'll see a fun bush pilot airplane demo not long after leaving the docks. Before the trip is over you've sailed past a working dog-sled kennel,... More

The Riverboat tour was exciting and educational. The narrator was informative and entertaining. I loved the interaction between land and river. We also had the pleasure of meeting the founder. The Indian village was awesome. Would definitely recommend this Riverboat ride to everyone.

We started with a hot lunch in the meal room and explored te gift shop before boarding the Discovery. We were taken down the Chena River. We were given a demonstration of dog sledding and visited an Indian village. Remember to go to the 40 below room to experience true cold.

We started with all you can eat lunch in Discovery Hall, which was could accommodate any dietary restrictions and also delicious. Once on the boat, if weather is not good, head for third level and sit on the port side(left) for best views of what's to come. We were treated to a float plane taking off and landing, demonstration of... More
