I was here in May 2016, the weather was great and there was so much to see. There is an area with sledding dogs, hot springs, ice cream and plenty of trails to walk or hike.

We stayed in a state owned cabin in the Chena River State Recreation Area, and we had a great time! The cabin was very rustic, but it was fun. The river is beautiful, and even though the mosquitoes tried to carry us off, we enjoyed hiking around and sitting around a campfire.

I love the Chena River State Rec area in the fall - it is beautiful, there are less bugs once the trees start changing color...bring a camera and spend some time taking pictures!

Alaska river raft tours provided a great ice fishing experience for my husband and grandson on March 30. Bill 'fish slayer' was very friendly and helpful. Will book a tour again if we ever return to Fairbanks.

Dead of Winter rented a car and headed up for the day. The drive was easy and awesome! Once there we visited the ice museum with its beautiful ice scupltures and had an ice cocktail - fun! Great pictures taken around the hot springs and grounds..Everything iced over. Enjoyed a great salad in the form of their Smoked Salmon Vodka... More

Plenty of parking and easy access to a walk in the woods. Or for a walk along a road in the woods. We say moose tracks and bear track in March (it was warm this year).

We scheduled an afternoon just to come here & see what is was like. We did not spend the night so I can't say anything about the lodging. The springs themselves are nice and it was a fairly busy day. Children are supposed to be supervised by adults but kids will be kids & parents will look the other way.... More

I stayed a couple of nights at one of the state cabins, Hunt Memorial Cabin, which was really nice. A 6 person cabin is a lot of work for two people to keep warm all the time, just a warning. It was a great cabin, though. Beware that if you're going to stay in a cabin during winter, bring plenty... More
