Suggest touring the nearby Fredericksburg Visitor Center first. A visit to the National Cemetery will then put the horrors of the Civil War and for that matter War in general in perspective. Quotes from soldiers and their officers, on both sides, posted in the Visitor...More

This cemetery is right beside the visitors center. Take a walk around and imagine. Worth the time, definitely.

The soldiers died from major civil war battle between Washington D.C. and Richmond, Va. Of 15,243 troopers, only 2,472 have been identified. Graves are marked with two different headstones. Rounded stones mark the graves of identified, while smaller square stones are the unknown. The unknown...More

Sad to see so many young men's graves and so many graves for unidentified soldiers. And some graves with mutltipe numbers of deceased. Cemerty well laid out and maintained.

As others have noted, the cemetary is part of the Fredricksburg battlefield walking tour. You can just visit the cemetary if you like, but I recommend the whole walking tour because understanding the battle puts the cemetary in perspective. Very sobering. Highly recommended.

Go to the Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center first and get a map for a self guided tour. With that, you can walk around and read what is at each tour stop. This is a beautiful cemetery and is a very profound, sobering place. To think...More

A great cemetery where the battle actually played out. These cemeteries are always nice for a stroll.

The cemetery is located right next to the battlefield. It is a large cemetery on a hill, with sweeping views of the city. The cemetery itself is interesting with some unique signs, headstones and statues.
