Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Dont miss the background story of the waving girl. Her statue sits in a sweet little park on the waterfront and is worth a short stop to check her out and take a stroll along the riverfront..and if you have time take a free ride on the ferry as the landing for the ferry is at the end of the boardwalk just down from the waving girl.

The Waving Girl statue is by the docks on River Street. You can watch, as we did, huge barges slowly pull by loaded with cargo. This statue is iconic because of the girl waving to each ship and boat as it pulls into Savannah.
This is a nice, peaceful walk along River Street.

There are several legends that attempt to explain why Florence Martus welcomed ships entering the Savannah Harbor from 1887 to 1931. For 44 years, she waved a handkerchief by day and a lantern by night. Not a ship was ever missed, so the story goes. Was she waiting for a lost love? A statue stands near the riverfront as a tribute to her dedication. A charming piece of Savannah history worth 5+ stars!

On the water front one will find the Waving Girl Statue. The tour guide gave a very interesting story everyone needs to hear about the statue. It is located in a neat little park on the water front.

Along the Riverwalk there are many interesting sites. One of them is a statue to a woman who waved at ships entering the mouth of the Savannah River for nearly 50 years. Apparently in the seafaring worldwide, there are stories and legends of a woman who would wave to ships. This lady from the lighthouse on Cockspur Island is the source of those stories and Savannah has now permanently placed her in statue on their riverwalk.

This statue is a tribute to a real person who, from 1887 to 1931 (from age 19 to 63) greeted ships entering and leaving the Port of Savannah. During the day, she waved a "cloth," and, at night, a lantern.
Fascinating!!

This is a nice statue that depicts the Waving Girl which has a lot of history and folk lure behind it. You won't learn that much from the statue itself, so if you are coming here to learn, you'll either want a tour guide or Google. The statue is at one of the quitter parts of the River Walk which make it worth stopping at for a regroup before heading back into the city.

always a cheerful site to see the waving girl on the beautiful riverfront area. walk up and down river street and see what she saw beauty as well as a busy area where ships still bring goods into and out of the city. get an ice cream or gelato and just sit and watch.

Although it is a little difficult to find, it is interesting. It is at the far end of River Walk Park and hard to see from the cobblestone street. You need to walk along the river front because there are large trees that surround 3 sides of this statue. The statue isn't very impressive, but the story behind the statue is.

This quaint statue on the riverfront honors Florence Marbus. A resident of nearby Elba Island, she waved at every ship entering Savannah harbor for a period of 44 years. It's worth a walk along the riverfront to take in this piece of Savannah history.
