The Johnny Mercer Statue reminds one that this is the birthplace of the great composer. With a little more "digging" you learn that he is buried in the nearby (check your map) Bonaventure Cemetery. His burial place is marked by an interesting headstone.

We walked into Ellis Square and saw the statue. I did not remember that Johnny Mercer wrote Moon River! Nice!

A wonderful bronze statue honoring famed Tin Pan Alley lyricist Johnny Mercer, a native of Savannah. A plaque beside the statue provides a short bio. Worth checking out when in the vicinity of City Market

I had no idea who Johnny Mercer was. Found out he was a composer. Never made it over to his house that is located in Savannah.The statue is in the square at the edge of City Market.

The statue is in the square at the edge of City Market. It's a nice memorial to the composer and a fun spot to take pictures with him.
