Unless you are in the mood to deal with extremely rude staff- go elsewhere. The doorman was a complete jerk from the start, we had the password AND tickets to the show and he still gave us a hard time with me wearing jean shorts and almost didn't let us in. I was completely embarrassed, but understood that if they had a dress code to stay consistent- I could respect it. However, the female bartender was literally wearing a tennis skirt and there was several women in there that were also wearing jeans with holes in them. It truly felt like he was just trying to be a jerk for the hell of it. Once I arrived to the bar, the male bartender was even more of a jerk and rude. We tried to order drinks off of their cocktail menu (which were very overpriced) and he refused to make the first three we tried to order without further explanation. He also told the guy next to me that he wasn't going to serve him. I have no idea why? There was less than 10 people in this bar at this point. If we didn't have tickets to the show, I would've immediately left. We even debated eating the $80 cost of tickets to leave anyway because of how our experience started off and I was literally in tears. The show was good, but nothing great.
Overall. this place has a ton of potential, but they need to reevaluate their staff because it's not worth the attitude or price you get.
FURTHERMORE, our aibnb buddies went there earlier that night and tried to order a mocktail because his wife is pregnant and he said he wouldn't serve them if they aren't drinking.

We LOVED it here! The drinks were amazing and the ambiance cannot be beat. Definitely a highlight of our trip. If you like older music and a more tame evening you will love Mata Hari.

We'd heard about the Mata Hari speakeasy for a few years before our visit this year. So, we had much anticipation ahead of our visit.
We also included other speakeasies on our list to visit and visited several of them.
Mata Hari was a disappointment.
1. We bought tickets for the burlesque show, so we'd be sure to get in, as we didn't have the "passcode"; more on that later.
2. Costumes - 1920s attire is NOT required - don't bother - you'll feel out of place
3. Bathroom - take note, the bathrooms are a single-person facility - one woman, one mens' - after the burlesque show, the line is LONG
4. The drinks are overpriced and weak. I don't mind paying more for a cocktail - but I want it to be a great cocktail
In my opinion, they should drop the password requirement - this is silly as there are so many other options in the city that do not require a password.
The burlesque show should be period appropriate. Instead, it was just a show with chicks in small glittery clothing dancing around - no biggie. Not great.
The limited opening times - weekends only after 9 PM - are also a draw back. The other speakeasies we visited were open most days of the week and earlier in the day, say 5 PM or 7 PM.

Lackluster at best. We expected some signature cocktails or some sort of ambiance besides “old and dark”.
The girl singing was good but sat on her phone in front of the piano between songs/sets so it kind of killed her performance for us.
The man at the door was probably tired of tourists or something but he was really rude.

The place was nice, needed probably a little remodeling and soap in the bathroom. The guy at the gate unfortunately was very rude to us, mostly to my husband, before even letting us knock on the door he told my husband ver aggressively that his attire was out of place and that he should hit the hip hop bar upstairs (very prejudiced), even tho before leaving our hotel the concierge checked our outfits and said we’d be perfect for the ocassion. We ended up calling management mostly to let them know that it was completely disrespectful and unnecessary and they met with put and after checking that we were in fact fine and apologized for the misunderstanding. We had a drink and played some billiards, there was good music.

I think the best part about Mata Hari is hunting for the password. They do provide a genuine experience, with an intimidating door man and a dramatic entrance. However, once you’re inside, it’s sort of just…a bar. The drinks were okay, and some of the decor was fun.
When we got our drinks, we noticed a ton of people pouring out of a wardrobe in a Narnia-type fashion. I was enthralled and needed to go through that wardrobe!!! Tickets were $30 per person and the show started 20 minutes late. I’m not a cheap patron, but I don’t think any part of this show was worth $30. I would say that it felt more like a $15-$20 show.
It was an hour in length, which was probably nice for those who enjoyed it, but there wasn’t really a smooth way to exit early if you didn’t. This was my first burlesque show, and I guess I just didn’t expect what we got. The dancers would perform one number, then a comedian would come out for entertainment, then one dance number, the comedian, and so on. With all of that back-and-forth, I would’ve at least expected more costume changes, but the dancers had the same aesthetic all night (probably due to their pearl wigs that stayed on the whole time).
I didn’t expect burlesque dancers to dance to Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears, which definitely didn’t feel very 1920’s. Maybe I went in with the wrong expectation…but it felt thrown together.
I absolutely commend the dancers and comedian for their hard work. They certainly deserve $30/ticket for a live show. Maybe it was just an off night, or maybe I’m not their target audience. I just expected more of a 1920’s experience with less twerking and more dancing…
Overall, Mata Hari is a cool place to go once. And there were absolutely plenty of other patrons who seemed to enjoy their experience more than I did! I gave them 3 stars because they did what they said they would do: they provided a dim-lit speakeasy with a secret burlesque show in the back. I do think that, in this particular instance, it’s more exciting in theory than in practice. It isn’t very shiny up close.

Learned about this hidden speakeasy while reading up on what to do in Savannah. The article talked about how you have to locate a key holder and then find the place hidden within the back alleys of Savannah. We were excited about a scavenger hunt type adventure with a cool places to have drinks and relax when we found it. I was a tad disappointed in how it wasn't really difficult to find at all. Asked our concierge about it and they immediately gave us the password.
We found the entry to it during the day and went back that night to visit. The alley was a bit sketchy when we got there around 1030 or 11 but we went on down and entered the establishment. It was crowded but we were able to grab two seats at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and engaging.
We found the place to be very loud, but this was mostly crowd noise. Around midnight it emptied out and become more of the chill/quiet location we had read about. The bartenders did tell us it was the norm for it to die down around midnight. If I were to go back I'd probably wait until around that time.
The drinks were amazing, the decor was pretty cool. I think I may have built it up in my head to be more than it was but glad we at least tried it out.

We went to Mata Hari’s because it was recommended to us. I’ve been to a few speak easy places and the only thing about this place being a speak easy was that it was dark. The good bartenders (according to other reviews) must have had the night off. The burlesque show…what a rip off! Spend your money else where.

Is there anywhere else besides hotel concierges to get the password I’m not fancy enough to stay at the downtown historic hotels and I’m from out of town and don’t know anyone with a key?
HardJax

There’s plenty of hotels within walking distance to Mata Hari that I wouldn’t consider “fancy” Ask around, surely someone will know the password, or know someone that can find out for you.
We’re dying to go but we’re staying at an AirBnb. Any suggestions on how to get the password? Or anyone know it for September 7th?
If you purchase a ticket to the downtown delilahs online, it should serve as a key for the night

Like Dandelion our hotel concierge called and got us the password for the night. We went on Saturday Night - there was a show that night. I thought the main attraction was the speakeasy and the drinks!
Enjoy!

Hi, does anyone know where to stay that will provide a key/passcode to Mata Hari? Staying in Savannah for the night Friday and this would be the perfect stop!

Any hotel with a concierge - just ask. Password changes all the time so they have to call and get the latest. I have heard that several BB's have a special key they allow guests to borrow. Some say the key has VIP privileges.
