Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Harper-Fowlkes House has the most imposing exterior facade of any of the historic Savannah houses that are open to the public, but it has the most expensive and least interesting tour of those that I visited. The house serves as the regional headquarters of the Order of Cincinnatus, and the upstairs bedrooms have been converted into reception and meeting areas, meaning the historic tour is really only limited to four rooms on the first floor. And even these rooms have been significantly modified over the years. What's left is a short tour (about 30 minutes) that is devoted half to the woman who built the house and the Order headquartered here, and a few minutes on the historic features of the house that remain.

Dear Guest, Thank you for visiting. We are glad you found the home architecturally fascinating, and apologize you did not find the rest of the tour as enjoyable. We value your feedback and will use it to make improvements. We hope you give us another chance in the future! Warmly, Harper Fowlkes House

We were needing to kill some time and saw that they were doing tours every hour on the hour that day. Paid our $12 and it was about a 30 min tour. Maybe 40 min at a stretch. Interesting facts we learned about the property and it's owners. Mostly female owners who kept this property from ruin. Probably the best thing was learning about the Society of the Cincinnati's who now manage the historical trust of the property. Something new I never knew.

Thank you for your review and for visiting with us. The neat thing about this house is that there is always something new to learn, even for those of us that have been working here for years!

Sarah goes above and beyond but not only advertising so that we could join her on her wonderful tour of the Harper Fowlks house. She was also a wonderful knowladgble fun and enthusastic tour guife. You could tell she enjoys her job and researches outside the peramoters of her tour. To deliver a well versed and broad yet in depth veiw of Savannahs History.

Love the tours for the older homes in Savannah. The houses are always so interesting. I just wish that the tour individuals would take their time in noting all the comments. I always seemed to be rushed like they are hurrying to get to the next group. Some of the houses they need to show more floors. That's why we go to see them. NOT just one floor of a three story home.

My friend, Karen, and I happened upon this home today on a walking tour of Savannah. We had a magnificent tour guide (she had moved to Savannah from NYC). The house was beautiful and filled with history. So much of its history was thanks to a woman ahead of her time who devoted herself to the preservation and beauty of this house. I highly recommend the tour. It took approximately an hour and cost $12--which I'm sure goes back into the maintenance and further preservation of these houses so rich with history.

We were in the first tour of this home at 10:00 Friday. The docent was very knowledgeable imparting not only details of the home and furnishings room by room but the details of the family linage and history. The chandeliers which were originally gas and converted to electric in 1940 are original to this mansion. Most ornate i have seen So are a number of furnishings as well.

You hear about the original owner and builder up to Ms Harper Fowlkes, last owner who lived there. She was a self made business woman who single handedly saved the home and the several row houses remaining on the square. She also saved the square. The accomplishments of this lady are testament to her courage in a time when single women could not even purchase property without a man as a co signer. In this case her father. She went on to start many businesses and became a powerful figure in Savannah society.

Of all the properties and tours of Charlestown or Savannah this is the most complete and reflects the rarified personality of its former owner - the woman who started the Tea Shop at Savannah's Pink House and went on to amass a history and fortune in antiques, period pieces and architecture. It is hidden away - behind the Civic center but essential for historically minded - the Cincinnatus collective loved it so much they now call it home!

Exquisite older Mansion filled with Antiques, House purchased in the 40s or 50s
for pennies on the dollar. She was very entrepreneurial, and she filled the home
with lovely furnishings. In a quest to save the home, she deeded it to the COS.
They have done a great job in preserving the home.
This is a MUST SEE whilst in SAVANNAH.
The ladies working the home , were both very sweet.

What a find! Not a house I would have visited normally when going to Savannah, but totally worth it! Found sort of by accident.

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the house, it’s history, and Savannah in general.

Four stars because of the tour content. House is owned by the Society of the Cincinnati, and a good chunk of the tour focused on them and their workings. I would have loved to hear more about the earlier periods of occupancy, life in Savannah, and the enslaved staff. Bonus points, however, because our tour guide referred to black members of the household as “enslaved people” and not “slaves”

Overall, the house is 100% worth seeing. The architecture and interior features are stunning and the staff is wonderful!

This house had so many unique features. For one all of the furniture and fixtures are placed exactly as the will stated. There is a lovely collection of original china from the Queen's Inauguration. The tour guide was excellent and showed so much enthusiasm. We also were able to go to the second floor, which is not always the case in some of these older homes.
Very nice all around!
