Overview
More
Located near historic Savannah, this park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s intracoastal waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot Giant Ground Sloth replica and reptile room. A scenic campground is nestled under live oaks and Spanish moss, while groups can enjoy privacy in their own pioneer campgrounds. Open-air picnic shelters and an enclosed group shelter are popular spots for parties, reunions and other celebrations.

We camped here for Memorial Day weekend we were there for about a week. It was a very beautiful area, and is maintained very well. I would definitely stay here again.

We have camped at the one campground in Tybee before but they were booked up for this trip so we decided on Skidaway Island State Park - wow! We loved the huge, peaceful, wooded sites. Tons of shade for those hot days. We had deer...More

This hidden little gem is a short drive from downtown, but it feels like you're faraway from Savannah. Take the dog for a hike or just capture some peace and quiet in the trees and historic relics from the first Savanah settlers.

Stayed 2 nights with advance reservations. Friendly Park staff and facilities well kept. Sites are spacious and the place was just so peaceful and quiet. We were in site #4, which had a horseshoe pull-through drive for our 32’ Motorhome. 50 amp service, good water...More

State park campgrounds can vary a lot, but this one has a lot of recent updates. Sites are a spaced well, though there are limited trees/vegetation between sites so not much on privacy in that sense. Most sites seem to be W/E, but there are...More

Had a lovely Sunday morning in May walking the shorter trails and boardwalks to view birds. The views were always changing and among the birds we saw were a pair of summer tanagers, a red-headed woodpecker, a red-bellied woodpecker, a Carolina wren, a bald eagle...More

We have camped in many many campgrounds throughout the USA. Skidaway is in our top 3 for the following: Lots of space between sites so you do not have to listen to the neighbor's TV or overhear their conversation. Heavenly shade for most sites. Peace...More

Be sure to book far far away from playground if looking for peace and quiet. It is 7 am and it sounds like recess at an elementary school. Maybe weekends are like this at most parks but this one seems exceptionally loud.
