    Magnificent Cathedral
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on E Harris Street is a magnificent cathedral. One may see the double spires from the historic district before arrival. Upon entering the main doors inside, one is left breathless. The architecture of the cathedral, stained glass windows, and large three-dimensional stations of the cross are exquisite. The cathedral is open for prayer and reflection at times during the day. One morning when we visited, we were fortunate to hear the organist playing. No matter what one's religious affiliation, the cathedral should not be missed.

Beautiful Architecture in This Solemn Setting
Definitely worth a visit when in Savannah. Open for mass attendance, for tours, and for just wandering through it on your own. Check their website to make sure there are no special events that cause it to be closed to the public. I got off the Trolley Tour bus stop only to find that it was closed in preparation for an evening concert. I simply returned the next day. It’s stunning and even though the public has access, everyone remains quiet when inside the basilica. I spent about 45 minutes slowly strolling through and taking photos. Many people sat in the pews for quiet reflection and some were kneeling in prayer. My only regret was not attending a mass here. Maybe on a future visit?

    A Holy & Special Place
The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist makes for an imposing sight as you walk the streets of the Savannah Historic District, with its unique French Gothic style including several soaring spires and bright whitewashed stucco coating over the structural brickwork (particularly striking when lit up at night). The interior spaces are even more beautiful and provide a spiritual sanctuary for quiet contemplation (as you wish) and for admiring the various decorative & architectural features. This place of worship is one of the most attractive cathedrals my wife & I have seen in our travels around the U.S., and the parish staff can offer you details & insights into its history including occasional free sit-down tours describing the key features of the building. A visit should be part of everyone's Historic Savannah walking tour.

    Simply Breathtakingly Beautiful
Simply breathtaking. So much pride goes into the upkeep of the church itself considering its age and location and you can see it and feel it in every detail. During Christmas the spectacular Nativity set up is worth the visit alone. A beautiful spiritual trip for our entire family.

    Fantastic nativity scene.
Beautiful modern ish cathedral. Lovely stained glass, catching the sun beautifully today. Really impressive nativity scene - the best I've ever seen. However, all slightly ruined by the miserable woman stationed at the entrance shouting at people. Completely unnecessary.

    Beautiful cathedral
A beautiful beautiful cathedral. Absolutely worth visiting. It was very peaceful, which was so nice after all, of the other touristy attractions! I am Catholic, so I may be a bit biased - but - I’d highly recommend to see the lovely architecture & relax and appreciate the silence.

Take a minute to connect with God or take in some very meaningful artwork and architecture.
We were invited to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary along with all those 50th and 25th anniversary's from the Diosese of Savannah. This was my first visit and was awestruck by its beauty and spirituality. Guided and unguided tours are available when Masses or worship is not being conducted. The stained glass windows are awe inspiring and very meaningful to everyone especially the faithful.

    Truly a religious experience!
I decided this second Sunday of lent to attend mass at the Cathedral while in Savannah. I’m so glad I did! The 10:00 mass was packed. When the organ began, chills went through me. Then the choir started singing, and the music was awesome. Combined with the beauty of the art filled cathedral, it was truly a moving experience for me. My simple, modest, and modern sanctuary at home pales in comparison. Every Catholic should be so lucky to attend a service in a place like this once in their life.

    Breath Taking
The Cathedral of St John the Baptist was absolutely stunning. We bought tickets for the hop off hop on trolley and this was one of the stops (although I already knew I wanted to see it). I’m not sure if they have guided tours but you can certainly walk around on your own. It’s was gorgeous.

    A Must-See
One of the most beautiful Roman Catholic Basilicas in the USA. Built in French Gothic style, incredibly stunning. Tile from Italy, stained glass from Austria, white Carrar marble. A must-see, all are welcome for a modest $3 donation, not mandatory.

The money value in the interior of this church screams opulence. It is spectacularly decorated to be sure...at the expense of the contributors. They request a $3 "donation" at the door per person to gaze on their riches and ask $2 to light a candle. Being an ex-Catholic who found salvation in Jesus Christ (which is mostly unknown by Catholics), I found this extravagance of wealth in possessions vulgar in the extreme.

Beautiful architecture and free to go in. They don’t like it if you go in to look while there are services going on but they will still let you. One in our group wasn’t careful and stepped on some construction causing a loud noise. Also, you must take your hat off before going in or the ushers will ask you to please remove your hat.

The inside of this Catholic Church is ornate, detailed and the stained glass exquisite. For a small donation at the door you can gaze upon a truly unique and beautiful church interior that stirs the soul. Be sure and look up at the back loft, uniquely done.

Make sure you check their website for mass times, no visits during services. There was a sign placed outside the door during mass that did provide a return time for visits. Security guard sits inside door. Public Must wear mask to enter, must use the supplied hand sanitizer when entering. Pictures allowed. You are also allowed to sit in a pew and pray if you desire. Box with suggested $3 donation is placed at door. A church staff member was sitting at the back of the church at a table with some items for sale ( Christmas ornaments and lavender satchels).

This Cathedral is a must see when visiting Savannah! We attended Sunday Mass there and were glad we did. Sometimes when visiting other churches as out of towners, you don’t always feel welcome. This was not the case here. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. We will definitely return on our next visit to Savannah. If you’re not interested in Mass, I would still definitely recommend seeing the architecture of this beautiful church.

I visited the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist several times in June 2021 during my visit to Savannah. The first time I spent almost an hour inside. The altar, organ, figures, stained glass, Bishop's chair and many other things were beautiful. I attended Sunday mass here conducted by the Bishop of Savannah. There are so many photo ops both inside and outside. I recommend going at 9 am when the doors are first opened for visitors and there are less people.

The cathedral is beautiful with a gothic style. On the outside you can't imagine the beauty of the interior. It has beautiful works made of marble, they also used wood and stone, with perfect finishes. They also have stained glass windows and spectacular paintings. It's totally worth a visit. Entrance is free. You can´t take pictures during Mass. Mass hours are at 7:00 am and 12:00 p.m.

This is a must see Church when visiting Savannah.
So inspiring between the Stained Glass and Paintings, you can spend a few hours just taking in the beauty. There is a $3.00 donantion request. Parking is limited due to the heavy volume of visitors. Catholics and Non Catholics will truly enjoy this breathtaking church and it's history. Don't forget to bring your phone or camera.

This cathedral, inspired by Notre Dame in Paris, is stunning. Admission is free, but there's a suggested donation of $3. During the times of Covid-19, every other pew is roped off to accommodate distancing, and hand sanitizer is provided at entrance and exit. Very quiet and not busy at all in mid-October 2020. Highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place.
