The Book Thing is a 7000 square foot building, actually bigger than a lot of book stores, that has thousands of books and they are all FREE. Started by a couple of teachers and a 'bibliophile bartender', the book thing survives on donations of money, time and books. Lots of books! The first time I went there, I left with... More

Someone told me that the location looked shady, but personally, I didn't think so. It is tucked behind a few stores and you enter through the back. There was plenty of parking when I went. When I walked in I saw a small room with books all around. I was disappointed - but figured I'd look around. Ends up that... More

See title. That's basically all you need to know - stacks and stacks of semi-organized books. It might take you some time, but you WILL find books that are on your "to-read" list. I've found at least five.

Books...for free! How can you beat that? It was actually quite larger than I expected. They have lots of books covering lots of topics. I would have gone home with more if we weren't flying. If I had a place like this in my hometown I'd be there every weekend!! And they have a parking lot to park in which... More

If you enjoy getting lost in shelves upon shelves of new and old books from all genres, this place is for you. They accept donations in the forms of books only (so if you have any that you don't use lying around, bring them!), and all the books are absolutely *free*. The shop looks a little run down, but what... More

If you get there early in the morning and rush to Russell's recommendation, you can find some great books. If you want to get free books and get rid of books, go to the Book Thing.

This bookstore is neatly tucked away in a residential neighborhood. It opens only on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm however you can donate books 24/7. There is limited amount of parking both in the lot and on the streets so you may have to park your car and walk. I went to this bookstore alone and... More

The Book Thing is a brilliant idea: FREE BOOKS! If you love to read definitely visit this site. It's literally a warehouse of old books and magazines. The first time I visited I felt guilty scooping up five books until someone passed by me with a SUITCASE full of books. They take book and magazine donations so bring in what... More

I had heard about this place through a friend and at first I was a little hesitant to go. But it really is a unique sight to see. The books really are free! There are about four rooms filled with books of all kinds of genre and it makes the hunt for the 'perfect' one even more exciting. My friend... More
