Be prepared for the unusual and imaginative at this museum housing works by non-mainstream artists, including the "whirligig", a 55-foot wind-powered sculpture, a 10-foot model of the Lusitania made entirely out of match sticks and a mobile that spans three floors.

This museum has evolved and expanded over the years. Art work inside and larger than life pieces outside. Museum filled with wild, very modern, very eclectic pieces. Wall hangings, sculptures. Loved everything. This is not a museum filled with paintings of various famous artists. There...More

This is perhaps the most bizarre museum I have been, and this is certainly one of the most interesting for me as well. Even a monkey like me can appreciate the art within! Perhaps one of the kind in this world, AVAM is an excellent...More

We had a fantastic time with our kids 15 and 12 at this museum. This is a unique museum, with unique exhibits -- many of which are interactive. Our kids both agreed it was one of the best museums they had ever visited!

Our Airbnb host recommended this museum and we are glad they did. The museum is not your typical art museum and we enjoyed the wide variety of art on display. The name says it all, these artists have a vision and they put into reality.

We loved this place. There are multiple buildings, and we only made it through the main one, but would've loved to see more. There's a lovely cafe on the top level for a pleasant break in viewing. So much visual stimulation! Great for sparking conversations...More

We visited the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore and were wowed by the colorful mosaics, the YUMMM! exhibit -- a display on the history and future of food (on display through September 3, 2017) and the story of artist Matt Sesow, whose work is...More

Absolutely one of the most interesting and unique collections of art. We went on Mother's Day and spent hours reading about the pieces and enjoying the experience. I will go again because it is obvious that you cannot take it all in at one time!
