Great museum of less common modern art

Not too many name artists here but some top quality, interesting art anyway. Especially like the wide variety of kinetic art, some large enough to ride in.

My favorite museum in Baltimore, been a member since 2002. American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) contains a broad collection of unusual art that makes you view common items from a different perspective. I visit monthly and always find a piece that I didn't notice before. Fun!

Love this quirky museum in Baltimore. Had a great new exhibit worth seeing and permanent collections. Very detailed modern art work, outdoor areas, lectures/demonstrations, hands on crafts. Kid friendly, parking on street. Close to Baltimore harbor. Will be back.

Their shows change regularly. Right now it is all about food. Lots of reading but lots of cool facts. The gift shop is unbelievable!

This museum is impressive in its scope, lay-out, range of artists, and the stories of the artists' journeys. Even the building its housed in is a creative and interesting space

I've been to the American Visionary Art Museum 3 times now. I love how the exhibits change. The artists here are self-taught. Always interesting!

The museum itself looks eclectic from the outside, very cool, crafty looking exterior. There was a photo exhibition by the photographer who had shot Prince's Love Sexy album cover as we entered - stunning Prince photos I had never seen before. The staff were really helpful, though the John Waters wing was closed when I went, which was the point... More

They have 3 buildings with pretty cool art pieces. Recommend for all! Also, check for Groupons for that.

Colorful, eclectic, humorous, and profound social commentary. What a surprise as I had not heard about this place until I saw it on Groupon. Many pieces well-curated, all contemporary. Balance of two-dimensional art and sculpture (also a fun kinetic exhibit - an annual event is held). The restaurant was also very good, including vegan selections and designer cocktails. The museum... More
