I have always admired Eleanor Roosevelt, this tour just made me admire her all the more. Always about serving others, no pretense. Her home, the only one she ever owned, is modest and unpretentious. Other than the handed down family silver, it could be anyone's home. Our ranger was a real fan of Eleanor & her enthusiasm about Eleanor's life... More

Learned so much more of Eleanor Roosevelt and all she gave to this great nation. I would highly recommend reservations as tours are limited to small groups. There is outdoor time so dress warmly on cold days. Tour guides are outstanding and had fun tidbits of not largely known facts!

Really a beautiful location and the grounds are very well-maintained. The park rangers were very knowledgeable. I only had a brief time so I didn't take the tour, but it was very pleasant just walking around going inside the house sitting on the quiet grounds. I would very much recommend

This was an EXCELLENT place to learn about Eleanor Roosevelt; especially interesting was her push for civil rights and equal rights for women.

We visited FDR's home and also Val-Kill Cottage through tickets we booked online ahead of time through National Parks. We arrived early and since the tour wasn't full, they allowed us to move up our tour, which we were grateful for. We enjoyed the movie, which my husband learned a lot. I'd read 3 different books about ER prior to... More

This is Eleanor Roosevelt's cottage. It has some memorabilia and historical sights. Val Kill is a perfect stop when visiting the area.

Eleanor Roosevelt, though well known, was likely one of the most strategic political thinkers of her day. An enthusiastic and knowledgeable Park Ranger took us through the paces of Eleanor's life at Val-Kill. As we stood in the living room of the small and lived-in cottage, we learned about her meeting with JFK when he was seeking her support in... More

Slightly east of the main Hyde Park attractions, Val-Kill is definitely worth the detour. Learning about Eleanor Roosevelt is enjoyable, interesting and important on its own and in how it adds to the information on FDR. There are trails connecting this property with the FDR home, but it is also easy to drive here and park. Your National Park pass... More

Sometimes it looks like a hot dog picnic in Duchess County. (Speaking of, have you ever been to Duchess County? Now, as the leaves change color, may be a great time to go.) I wish I could write one comprehensive post on the Hyde Park area because Val-Kill itself is (I think) best understood within the context of some other... More

Val-Kill was Eleanor Roosevelt's "home of her own." The ranger and Stone Cottage docent provided wonderful stories and historical insights.
