The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

Truly educational and moving to tour the area and understand what happened and why. Strongly suggest you arrange for a guide to add depth to the visit.

My husband wanted to come here when we were visiting our kids in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It is only about 45 minutes to Gettsyburg and the countryside is just spectacular. It was cold and rainy and Monday, so it was not too busy. We didn't know...More

It was a very pleasant day to visit the military graves. We liked the statue of Lincoln and his Gettysburg address was written on a brass plaque. Each state that had soldiers die were listed on the tombstones. Many had a stone for unknown soldiers....More

We were very impressed with this Park. The battle of Gettysburg becomes clear, they have done a nice job, interweaving the history with a working town. We did the self drive tour, which follows the events of those 3 days. The whole route is paved,...More

The layout of the park is great, you just follow the signs to the different areas. Not too much walking and tons of stuff to see. A must see!

Hie, We didn't hire a guide during our tour but used auto tour self drive using the map provided free at the visitor center. However it is better if you buy the audio cd as suggested if you chose to self drive. You could... More
Hi, I would like to know how big the crowds are during the weekend/days around the July 4th battle anniversary. Would it be better to visit on Saturday or Sunday that weekend? How early do you think we should get to the park to avoid the largest of the crowds? Thank you so very much for your help.
