The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".

We did spent some money to watch the short documentary and the cyclerama which oriented is to the location better and refreshed our memory of the civil war. Then we did the auto tour. A lot of flexibility, took our time, skipped when needed. Very...More

This was the second time in over 30 years that I used a licensed tour guide. If you are going to do the military park this is the way to go. The cost is well worth it. You receive way more information about the three...More

Everyone should visit here as at least once. The battle field is so well preserved. If you are an early riser it is so beautiful at sunrise. Sunsets can be spectacular on little roundtop. It will take more than a day to see it all.

I think because Gettysburg is the most well-known battle, this place gets crowded fast. The website says the visitor center is free. It is, but you have to pay to go through the museum, see the movie, etc. The movie is good and we enjoyed...More

Having visited GMP MANY times, I was again instantly impressed with the "new" NPS facility from 2008. Informative film, Cyclorama, and Museum are fabulous. Everyone is helpful in answering questions and making our visit pleasant. Also helpful to have food on site to feed a...More

This is a large battlefield that requires several hours to properly appreciate. Take a bus tour for the basics, then purchase the audio tour for more detailed information.

We toured the battlefield over a couple of days. It's very extensive. We came equipped with a book on the monuments - it added so much more to the experience. There were many school groups that added to the congestion, but the weather was lovely....More

Hie, We didn't hire a guide during our tour but used auto tour self drive using the map provided free at the visitor center. However it is better if you buy the audio cd as suggested if you chose to self drive. You could... More

REALLY BIG, especially considering that Saturday and Sunday (July 1 and 2) are both commemorative of the battle itself. If you're looking to avoid crowds, you won't avoid them on those days (no matter how early). You'll... More
