We stopped to see this area because we love being anywhere near the Mississippi river. The tour guides were very helpful. Worth your time to hike to see the mounds

While I didn’t do the hike out to the mounds, I did visit the Museum at the Effigy Mounds National Monument. The museum is very small and not that interesting. Could easily be missed.

We were able to learn more about the Indians who built the mounds seen all over the midwest. Beautiful park with great trails and overlooks. Make sure you stop!

Not the sexiest of national park service sites, but interesting stop if you are in the area. The mounds are not very pronounced and they have to really clear the area for you to see them. Probably worth stopping if you are in the area,...More

We walked a little over 3 miles with a 9 and 4 year old. We did bring a wagon which had pros and cons. Very steap hills made it hard to pull but it was easier is some spots and kept the little one from...More

The park itself is lovely and walking through the park is good exercise however you have to be prepared to walk a lot up hill. Being honest the mounds look like just another hill. Keep your expectations low. A trip to the park is a...More

The museum houses friendly park rangers that are very friendly and happy to help you out with any questions you might have. You can read up about the history of the area here as well. It is quite fun. Now the actual park itself is...More

We had really good time on this hike. It was misting and lightly sprinkling but the tree cover keeps you fairly dry. It’s a little bit of a hike up hill but worth it. The views are beautiful and the mounds really fill you with...More

I stopped into the visitor center. The staff were nice and friendly. I found the information very informative. I looked at the maps of the trails and where to locate the different mounds. It is a very large amount of hiking up steep bluffs. I...More

This review will only entail the museum and the mounds found immediately outside the visitor center. The museum was a good insight to the history of the area. There were many artifacts and literature to help explain what makes this area so unique. It was...More

You are welcome to walk the trails without a guide. Wear comfortable shoes. The first part is a good incline.

We just left there. The restrooms inside are closed currently due to construction on the septic system. There are porta jons in the parking lot. There is a small gift shop, no cafeteria, just a cold beverage vending machine.
