My family and I traveled awhile to get there, find parking and then walk several blocks only to find out after waiting that there would be no light show this evening (Dec 19) due to a wedding in the area. They didn’t want the music to disturb the wedding. I asked the girl working at the mini golf booth and that’s what she told me. I told her that information should have been posted on their website and she said we have no control over that. Really?? Very poor customer service. I’m sure we weren’t the only family disappointed

We happened upon this beautiful square in downtown Philly as we were out and about walking around. It is beautiful. Well worth visiting and sitting a bit to relax. Well maintained. Don't let the traffic circle deter you from going!

Franklin Square is a great outdoor space for hosting great events such as the Chinese Lantern Festival! The square has enough space to host food and drink vendors, restrooms, a stage, and of course beautiful lanterns! I had a great time visiting Franklin Square!

I went last year 3 times and told everyone how nice this was and just amazing. I took hundreds of photographs and traveled with my daughter, by myself once and again with a young child 4 years old Stayed hours all the time and saw different things to photograph every time. The huge goldfish, the underwater, the terracotta soldiers and of course the huge dragons, hanging balloons , umbrellas were all amazing. However, nothing from last year. THIS YEAR, about 2/3 the size very small, no unique creatures. The one large dragon was a light blue this year not as interesting. Small little dragon, areas empty grass where last years packed with structures. And the ridiculous shark was just a big blue tunnel. Very few vendors. No unique creatures.
food terrible and price was worst. I have several friends that want to go with me as I went several times last year and they saw my photographs. I have called them all and told them not to bother. It is just not up to par. I did not even take my camera out of my bag. It was that disappointing.

We wanted to check out the Chinese Lantern Festival at Franklin Square. The have evening shows and it was hot so if you can hang out until after dark it looks even better. There are two lines to get in so be careful. The Sixth Street line was for people who already had tickets and Race Street was for people buying tickets. I dropped my family off on Sixth Street and went to drive around to find parking. There is some street spots that are free after 7:00 pm, otherwise you can park under the Constitution Center. My wife managed to order the tickets while waiting in line so that all worked out. It is $17 for and adult ticket but check Groupon if you have time. The displays are all around the park and are beautiful. it was nice to stroll around an go from one wonder to the next. Tip: You don't want to miss the performers so find out the show time and get yourself a patch of grass to sit on for the show. It was the highlight of the trip. My favorite was the face changer. There are vendors around the park for Chinese crafts. Franklin Square also has a Philadelphia themed miniature golf course and a carousel but you have to pay for these. You can also get a bite to eat and a beer if you like. There was something for everyone.

Franklin Square has a cool philly themed mini-golf course, and a fun carousel . There is a playground and park area, great for eating lunch on a nice day. Only a block or so from historic philly great for a time out or some fun!

Went here specifically for the Chinese Lantern Festival. All the lanterns were beautiful and fun to look at. Great photo opps.
The shows are hard to see, because it’s a tiny area in front of the stage, so that was disappointing. Otherwise, a good way to spend 90 minutes or so. I’d prefer if it was $5 cheaper per person, but still a decent value at $76 for a family of 4 on a Friday night for something different...

I was appalled yesterday to see dozens, ( I am not exaggerating!) of rats running back and forth from the trash to the park on the 7th street side if the park!!!

Tonight, 11.9.2017, we ordered two hot dogs with cheese and chili. After waiting 10 minutes for our order (hot dogs!), we were handed two hot dogs with a slight coloring of Cheese Whiz and about a teaspoon of chili on each. Okay, NOT what we expected, but tolerable had the bill not been padded. As you can see by the posted menu, each hot dog SHOULD have been $3.50 each (a little steep for a hot dog) plus a dollar more for the chili (.50) and "cheese"(.50). Old school math says each hot dog should have been $4.50, not $5.50, as you can see on the bill. The $2.00 is not going to break us, but how many times a night does this happen and where are those dollars going? Obviously square burger is not making another sale to us.

Does mini golf accept credit cards?
Written 15 June 2019
I was able to Google the site and they are open during November. Their hours change in March, but it seems they are open from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.

Are there picnic table areas to bring food and enjoy a miniature picnic with the kids?

Definitely they have benches.
Not 100 percent on tables

what is the closest train stop? I'd be coming from Bucks County, trying to decide if we should drive or could take a train in.

Get off at Jefferson Station by train. You can walk or catch a cab/uber to Franklin Square. Enjoy! Best place to take kids in the city. Plus, the food is incredible.
