Good drive, but best in season

Interesting neighborhood of whimsical houses and art shops. Has great potential. HOWEVER the artists individually decide their hours and days of operation. Maps with days/hours are in constant flux. Too bad, if the artists had "business" sense this would be a great place to stroll, shop and eat.

A somewhat seedy area with only a few shops of interest. It was not a good beach day so we drove here and we were disappointed. Many nicer areas in Sarasota and Bradenton.

I enjoyed the scenery driving through this colorful village. Only a few shops were open, so it wasn't very walkable in December. However it was worth the drive, and I can see how this could be a great destination on one of the Friday open house events.

Most of the shops are not open during the week and it is mostly the same merchandise for the past 4 years which is mostly arts and crafts not Art. The only reason to ever go is to dine at Arts & Eats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have given Village of the Arts many visits and same results. Arts & Eats is the... More

Went on the first Saturday of December, when the area is advertised as open. The overwhelming majority of shops were closed. At one shop with multiple signs in the yard advertising the wares the owner came out into the yard when we opened the gate to tell us "we don't do that anymore, we just need to take down our... I love this art area! Lovely homes recreated as artistic homes with shops in the front. Many different focuses with art can be found among the streets. My only complaint is that of the three times I have have visited, not many of the shops are open. Their hours SAY they should be open but they are not. If this... More

the only reason for 4 stars is that not all shops were open, very eclectic wares and items, the pottery shop has some beautiful items, unfortunately some a little out of my pricerange, artte cafe has great coffee, did not try the food but it smelled delicious and later that day we stopped by the taco shack, which to my... My wife and I enjoyed a stroll through the area with our two small dogs - what a delight! All kinds of little art galleries, workshops, and installations. Plenty of little places to eat, too. Nothing fancy here, nothing cookie-cutter, everything is unique. There is a great brewpub called Motorworks with food trucks - this acts as a nice anchor... More

Nice little area of a few blocks downtown between 9th and 14th Street West. Very unique and charming artsy houses. Very colorful. There are a few very nice restaurants in the area. Some are even decorated like other houses of the art village. So you can plan you visit around your dinner or lunch as it does not take long... More
