As the largest natural and cultural history museum on Florida's Gulf Coast, the South Florida Museum offers engaging exhibits as well as educational programs that interpret the scientific and cultural knowledge of Florida, the world and our universe. In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum features a constantly changing lineup of temporary exhibitions -- offering something new to discover with each visit. The Museum includes the all-digital Bishop Planetarium Theater and the Parker Manatee Aquarium. Celebrating its 50th anniversary year, the Bishop Planetarium is the Gulf Coast's premier astronomy education facility, outfitted with a state-of-the-art Planetarium and projection system with stunning multimedia capabilities. The Parker Manatee Aquarium is home to Snooty™, Manatee County's official mascot and the oldest known manatee in the world, as certified by Guinness World Records. Snooty shares his Aquarium pool with other manatees that have been injured or orphaned and are being rehabilitated for return to the wild as part of the Manatee Rehabilitation and Release Partnership.

Interesting, Interactive, imagination adventures. It doesn't get any better. Take in a planterium movie or talk. Walk around, explore. Awesome experience.

This is a fabulous museum made even better with a spectacular planiterium with very informed staff. It provides local history and manatees so it provides lots of variety for both adults and children. We will visit again.

You're basically getting 3 attractions in 1: a museum, an aquarium, and a planetarium- and they're all included in the ticket price. There is such variety in the exhibits, too. History, nature, medicine, quilts, seashells and minerals, live "touch tank" with sea urchins and sea...More

This place is great. The planetarium programs are amazing. See Snooty, the oldest manatee in captivity, eat lettuce. Florida is taken through all prehistoric eras.

The initial attraction is always Snooty the Manatee, who was recently joined by three from the Sea! Then of course there is an area of Space Exploration concentration, Pottery, Ancient Medical Equipment, and the wonderful Planetarium! Great place to go. Free Admission.

I love this place. I loved going on field trips there in elementary school. I loved going to laser light shows. I loved to bring all the children there. Now I can just go and stroll around for hours immersing in the Florida history.

No. There are no restaurants onsite, but many good ones within an easy walk (3-4 blocks). Pier 22 and o'Bricks are two of my favorites. Enjoy!
