This is a great place to visit but the roads to Chaco Canyon are in a terrible condition, if you come in from the South, you have got 22 miles of unpaved "Graded Roads". If you come in from the North, depending on which route you take, you have either got 7 or 14 miles of roads that are in... More

Pueblo Bonito is one of the biggest sites in Chaco Canyon. If you can, join a ranger led hike into Pueblo Bonito. It takes about 60 minutes or longer, depending on the interest and interaction of the visitors. Stop at the visitor center for information. Anyway, it is a great way to get inspired to learn more about the people... More

We had lots of fun climbing the rocks behind the ruins. You can almost live in the ruins with a roof and everything. No trash and no bugs in early September.

Constructed over 4 centuries, Pueblo Bonito had as many as 805 rooms in 5 stories. The clearly marked tour route includes and overlook and stops at the earliest preserved section, the east plaza with numerous kivas and several storage rooms on the lower level.

This particular "big house" is the largest dwelling in Chaco, and one that you can walk through. Catch a ranger talk about the place or to buy a guidebook at the visitors center and follow the numbered stops in the archaeological site.

Pueblo Bonito is part of the amazing Chaco Canyon experience. I visited at 8am on a beautiful sunny morning. I was completely alone. It was an excellent way to experience its energy and beauty.
