The Chaco Cultural Center represents an American Enigma. The Anazazi culture. No one knows where they came from, but their cities, cliff dwellings and signs of their culture remain. One can only guess at what the Chaco Culture and purpose was. There were no remains or relics of how they lived, only amazing buildings, well advanced for the time. A... More

Una Vida is the great house closest to the visitors center. The trail is a moderate climb to the house with a bit more work to reach the petroglyph panel above. One of the earlier great houses in Chaco, approximately 30% of the structure is preserved and provides a good introduction to great house construction. Be sure to pick up... More

This is an easy walk from the visitors center. They were doing some work on this site when we were there.

A short walk up from the Visitor Center, this great house offers a good introduction to what is to come. The views are beautiful. Hike up a little farther to view the petroglyphs.

This pueblo has not been restored much since it was excavated, but provides a good idea of the construction. It is reached by a short dirt trail, easily walked. A strong person could push a wheelchair or stroller.

The trail to the petroglyphs is hard to follow, especially after a downpour. Be prepared to do a bit of easy scrambling up to the top

This is not a long walk around the ruins, but a good introduction. What is excellent is the petroglyphs at the top. The track is quite a scramble so watch your footing, but the drawings are in excellent .condition

This is right behind the visitor center at Chaco Canyon. We did the trail during a Ranger led trail talk. It was good. Good way to start off your visit of Chaco ruins.

This is the first site you'll explore on your tour, with the trailhead located adjacent to the visitor's center parking lot. It is also the longest walk, with a quarter mile hike just to reach the ruins. Be sure to continue on and see the petroglyphs on the rocks above the ruins. If you don't feel like walking, you can... The generic description is incorrect. Although this is the closest Great House to the park's visitor center, several others are much closer to the typical mode of transport within the park - your car or bike. The structure is up a short trail (I'd guess a 0.4 mile from the visitor center parking lot to the center of the ruin... More
