We have visited Chaco Canyon twice. The first time in March 2018 and we so entranced that we made a return trip in November 2018. Getting there,,, ignore GPS directions and follow the road directions from Farmington or Cuba,,, it will save you time! If...More

If you don't already know about the ways the ancient people tracked the solstice, you may learn something for going on this short tour. It appeared to be handicapped accessible. Dress warmly if the weather is cold or cool as this tour is not active....More

A short hike that begins in the parking lot of the visitors center takes you to the Una Vida ruins. It is not as popular as some of the other sites, so you can enjoy a little solitude. It offers great views of the valley...More

We almost did not visit Una Vida. We had a little extra time before we left, so we walked up behind the Visitor Center and really enjoyed the visit. Una Vida has a number of buildings with interesting masonry. There is a great view of...More

Una Vida is the first ruin you come across at Chaco. It is adjacent (NW) of the visitor Center. The ruins are not quite as well preserved as others in the Canyon. But, there is one of the best petroglyph walls in the Canyon above...More

A good place to take a ranger-lead walk to get oriented to the Chaco site as a whole. Be sure to get some guidance to find the petroglyphs, there is one site that has some very nice glyphs.

This is a smaller area than Pueblo Bonito or Chetro Ketl, but interesting nevertheless. It does lead to some other "minor" sites such as petroglyphs and Weatherill's grave site. Does not take long, so make the effort.

This should be your first ruins visit when coming to Chaco. The trailhead begins at the Visitors center parking lot and is probably 0.5 mile round trip. It is a neat complex and a sampling of what you will be seeing if you continue to...More

This is a short but slightly strenuous hike located right behind the visitor's center. You will see the best example of petroglyphs in the park on this hike. Bring water, wear sunscreen!

This is was one of the ruins in the park. Not much to see that is left, a few petroglyphs but better on the petroglyphs trail. Better ruins on the pueblo bonito. Skip this one if you have limited time. Trailhead is right by the...More
