- LT Infrequent TravellingNew York City, New York68 contributionsMust see Lion King on BroadwayWalt Disney's stage production captivates with stunning costume creativity and movements that brilliantly imitate the original animation's critical animals. Each scene transition feels magical. Watching a Broadway show, a dream of mine has been both fulfilling and rewarding. It receives the highest praise among all concurrent Broadway shows, consistently filling every seat with tourists. The family in front of me speaks Dutch, and the family beside me speaks French.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 March 2024
- tinaNtravelSan Jose, California2,153 contributionsAmazing musicalThis is an amazing musical that can be enjoyed by all ages. The costumes are amazing to the point that you need to keep reminding yourself that these are people and not the animals they are playing. It is also quite impressive when the ‘animals’ first come on stage walking down the aisles. The singing was also fantastic, and it follows the Lion King story line rather closely. If you only have time for one musical, then I would recommend it be this one.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 21 April 2024
- CDTrip72Arlington Heights, Illinois260 contributionsA great show!I must admit when we were deciding what Broadway show to see, this wasn’t my first choice. However, my daughter wanted to see it and the reviews were so good, we decided to do it. It’s very expensive to go, as were in the balcony, not in the center, and still paid almost $250 per ticket before all the other rip-off fees and taxes. The theater is in the heart of Times Square to get to, and once nice thing is despite the size, getting in was a breeze and I was afraid it would be a long wait because as we walked around Times Square, we saw many long lines waiting to go to other shows. We didn’t get any drinks, as the cheapest mixed drink I saw started at $18. As for the show itself, it’s around 2 ½ hours, including the intermission. The actors do a wonderful job and even though I (and I’m sure most) of the crowd knows the story, they still did a great job in keeping you in suspense on what is coming next. There are many funny moments, and they even snuck in a reference to IKEA in there. The special effects they had were great as well. I definitely would recommend saving up your money and going!Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 July 2024
- LocalGuide1 contributionLion King reviewThe entire show was spectacular! The lights, music, and don't even get me started on costumes! My jaw dropped in the very first minute of the show. Dancers and actors worked so hard, and you could tell they were very in character! It included adult and kid humor, so it's perfect for any age. They did a very good job on conveying the African culture through dance, song, and costume. Would highly recommend!Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 21 August 2024
- Manu14 contributionsSpectacular! This was our second Broadway show and it was superb! Great production value, the background score, actors, props, lighting--everything was top notch. The 'Circle of Life' performance at the beginning gave me goosebumps! The girl sitting next to me was moved to tears--it was a soul-stirring performance indeed. If you plan to visit only one show, then this should be the one.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2024

- Bob GiannaMontreal, Canada128 contributionsA must see show despite the expensive tickets.I've been in New York a few times but I've never experienced a broadway show. This time I had the occasion to go and finally see it with my future wife. Despite the expensive tickets, we really enjoyed the show. The performers to the costumes from the orchestra to the staging were all awesome and amazing. Keep in mind there might be crowds and lineups to get in the theater or the restrooms during the intermission. Perhaps this is one of the most popular performances of broadway but it's worth it to see it once. There might be other shows at a lower price if you're on a low budget.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2024
- AmanjunkieLos Angeles, California83 contributionsA Disney classic bright to life on BroadwayPurchased our tickets for this family-friendly Broadway musical online at the official website for the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Completely full theater with a great crowd. We sat in the Mezzanine seating to the side and they gave booster seats for our children who are 7 and 10. The production is impressive and the actors were sensational. It was our family’s first Broadway performance so perhaps we had a low bar, but the stage, costumes, and acting were all stellar. The second act is a bit boring but enjoyed all the recognizable Disney songs.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 November 2024
- ItchyFeetCamarillo, California11,833 contributionsGreat theater and productionWe were in New York City for Christmas and saw 3 theatrical productions including The Lion King. We had purposely seen the movie again immediately before going to the theater and I highly recommended you do so. I got a lot more out of the theater production after seeing the movie within the previous week. It was a great production and one of the best ones I have seen. I am not particularly a theater person, but this one was very good. It also followed the movie almost line for line so if you watch the movie, you will get a lot more out of the theater production. There is a nice interior with great views of Times Square. There were cast members available after the show for photos and autographs. Very highly recommend!Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 January 2025

It is hard to choose a part of the show we did not enjoy. From the ushers who showed us our seats, to the talented actors on stage, and the lovely lady who sold us our t-shirts at the end of the show...everyone was amazing. This was our 7-year-old twins first Broadway experience and we were excited to share this show with them. It was actually their 7th birthday and to put it in their words "it was the best day ever." I would recommend this show to anyone who is unsure about Broadway for their family. This show is not to be missed. A gem which I hope will stay around for many more generations to share. Thank you to everyone at the Minskoff Theatre you made our kids birthday one to always remember.

You know the story.... but seeing it performed LIVE, with the music, costumes and scenery is UNFORGETTABLE! We were six adults who went to see it and were all completely blown away by it all. Seriously...GO! (by the way, you can drive in and park next to the theater. Restaurant Row is only 2 easy walking blocks away. Tell them you're seeing a play and they will get you out on time.

This show brought tears to my eyes more than once. It’s not “just a remake” of the animated film (or the new cgi/ live action-like), there’s something undeniably human that comes with the gifted actors and musicians that are part of this ensemble. The scenery, the costumes, and the music really place you someplace magical from the beginning. If there ever was a first Broadway show to take your kids, this is the one.
As far as seating goes, the sound is good wherever you are. However, to get the most out of the show (and because it is a BIG theatre) I recommend seats as close to the stage as possible. While in other Broadway plays you can get away with seats in the back, this is one you’ll WANT to be up close to be in the midst of the action. These are usually hard to get, but I was able to get very good seats at a reasonable price using the Today Tix app, which as an added bonus make ticket pickup a breeze 30 min before the show: in front of the theatre.
Awesome Broadway production, Disney style!

First time feeling so bad for a theater I still didn't visited.
I booked tickets and now need to change the dates. Broadway.com where I booked them is saying the theater is not accepting changes. In the theater website they say they accept exchanges with 10 USD per ticket. After contacting them they say they accept changes but i need to do it with the broker I booked. The broker back is arguing that the theater argues that sales are final and the tickets cant be changed. By sending back the email from broadway.com to the theater i never received back and answer.
So sorry for the administration of this venue for one of the greatest theater plays.

I got the seats in the front, I honestly wouldn’t recommend it, maybe only for kids. I was disappointed with all the costumes that they had. Some characters didnt even have a costume, just a lion head on top of their head. It didn’t make it look believable at all. Then timon had a guy making him move right behind him without any costume. He is in green. It just seems like with all this technology and the money we paid for this, they would get some real believable costumes. It was literally watching PEOPLE act in the lion king without costumes, then only a couple actors had costumes. Some of the songs were not even in the movie. There were a couple problems where they would randomly stop the show, and didn’t tell the audience anything.

"Ok" would be the best to summarize this. My partner is a die-hard Lion King franchise fan and was very much looking forward to the live production. The soundtrack was classic, but not spectacular. You really have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy this, which is difficult as your eyes bounce back and forth between the actors and the figures. Worth it if you can grab the tickets at a reasonable price. The others in our party were relieved they didnt get some last minute for $400 each. I'd say I was let down with the Lion King the same way I was let down with Cats.

Don’t go to a matinee performance. The show itself, scenery and costumers were excellent, but was impossible to enjoy due to the constant chatter and noise from school kids. The ushers tried but were unable to control them. Very disappointing.

This was my 19th time seeing the Lion King in NYC, and it still has the same effect on me. SO emotional, and I look forward to going each time I visit the city. I will soon make it my 20th visit to the show, and my husbands 13th time. If you want a show that will make you smile, cry, laugh, and watch with amazement, this is the show for you.

There’s a very clear reason this show is rated number 1 in London.
This is an absolutely spectacular show: set, costumes, special effects, storyline, songs were just amazing.
What a thoroughly magical evening with my husband at the Lyceum Theatre London

What is there not to like about The Lion King in New York City. This is in our top 3 things we have done as a family. The other two were seeing my daughter meet live unicorns and the other was our vacation to Hawaii.
We recommend paying extra and getting seats in the orchestra section maybe 20 rows back. We did not do this and regret it. I think going to close won't be good either as people told us it's too close to really get perspective.
The Lion King is amazing, and the stage is great. If you get to NYC with children be sure to take them.

Hello! I’m just wondering if the traveling Lion King show also does the animal parade like in NY. I’m looking at tickets and trying to decide the best place to sit when it comes to Boston for me and my grandmother. Thanks in advance!

The animals start down the aisles so an aisle seat is amazing. It is a fabulous show x

Myself, a teenager and a 10 year old (56 inches tall) would like to watch Lion King this August.
A few questions:
We prefer to sit in the center. Is row F, H, K, L better? I have heard that seats that are too front are not good since you can't see. Is F too front especially for the 10 year old? F109-111 while the H K L seats are around 110-119 around there.
I notice the F seats are available on Friday 8pm and all the seats on this show are actually cheaper than other days. Is there a different or worst cast on Friday?
Thanks so much!
