Neighbourhood: Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighbourhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighbourhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went on a tour of this church with the New York Adventure Club. Our guide was the Director of Music and Organist, Bill. This was a huge bonus as he played the organ for us. The church is beautiful, as is the crypt where they have concerts. This is a gem in Upper Manhattan.

Progressive Episcopal church housed in a picturesque, architecturally beautiful building. Lots of similar progressive churches in the city.

I went to this churchto visit the burial place of James Audubon the famous artist that painted and printed folios of The Birds of North America. He traveled mostly along the East and Gulf coast of the United States collecting bird specimens that he subsequently painted. Since it was Thanksgiving Day, the Church had a large clientele for a free Thanksgiving Dinner (no, I did not partake). The burial ground had elaborate mausoleums. As I mentioned my interest was Audubon burial monument that consisted of a base atop of which there was a sandstone needle about 30 feet high with images of animals carved in all four sides. Interestingly there was a carving of a vulture just in top of his image.
