Getting there is the highpoint

Roosevelt Island is all about the journey rather than the destination. It's a relaxed place to hang out, but the best part is the tram ride to and from.

I am native to NY State but don't live in NYC. Still, I have seen, read about and heard about Roosevelt Island since if was a kid... but I have never taken the trip across. I had just an hour to kill after an appointment on the upper east side and this seemed like the perfect time. I took the... More

Spent an afternoon here for a wedding. Great spot that is a lot more relaxed that the rest of downtown. It has some nice views of the city. Cool breezes coming off the water and the monument is interest to see also.

It was our last day but as we had a late flight home we had time to tick another NYC attraction off my bucket list. We forgot our metrocards so paid $3 each each way. Great views both ways and lots of photo opportunities of manhatten. The island is nice for a walk. Get shots of the UN building and... More

We took the tram over and didn't really expect much because I hadn't read up on the island. We were very pleasantly surprised by the park. It was nice to get away from the crowds in NYC and just walk through a quiet park for an hour. The views of Manhattan were great. I really enjoyed the FDR monument.

We walked from the south end of Central Park to the tram stop (cable car) and used our metro card to get across To our surprise it was a free ride as we had just used our card to get Central Park The cable car was packed but we still had good views down the river. When we got off... More

Getting to Roosevelt Island could not be simpler — just take the tram using your MTA card at 60th Street and 2nd Avenue. It's a short trip across the river to the island (you can also take the F train). Enjoy the nice view. The walk to Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park is short and provides some wonderful views across... More

Considering how close this is to 2 of the boroughs and easy to get to, it doesn't feel like it has many visitors, so you can enjoy some chill out time here away from the hustle and bustle. There's a bit of a high street, a few eateries, lots of park land, and you can do a whole lap in... More

The Roosevelt Island is located between Manhattan and Queens and does not have many tourist attractions, being an average residential neighborhood. The best part of the visit would be a cable car ride over the river. A brisk walk to view Manhattan skyline (East side) and to take a picture would do the trick. The FDR park is small and... More
