NOW PLAYING: EVITA NOV 13 – 24 FAME. POWER. ILLUSION. All three collide in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Tony Award-winning rock-opera Evita. Director Sammi Cannold’s bold new vision shows how the events of the Argentinian first lady’s humble teenage years haunted and propelled her controversial rise to power by casting a Young Eva who grows into the iconic Evita. NEW YORK CITY CENTER has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943 when it was founded by Mayor LaGuardia with the mission to make the best in the performing arts accessible to all. The Encores! series has given new life to the musical theater canon, complemented by the Encores! Off-Center series. Dance remains an integral part of City Center’s mission through programs like the Fall for Dance Festival, which offers subsidized tickets for the price of a movie ticket. Through its education and community programs, City Center also brings the performing arts to over 11,000 New Yorkers yearly.

Neighbourhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit—spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's heaven where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit the Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

I was very surprised to see the amount of garbage on the streets and sidewalks of this magnificent city. It really does take the shine of the experience you would expect. Almost everywhere you walked there was garbage. Perhaps employing those without jobs to pick up the litter would make the city a better place.

I always enjoy going to City Center to see a play. The seats are comfortable not jammed in. The lobby area has a bar with drinks and light snacks. The productions are always well mounted, and the place is very well-kept.

Attended a performance of Evita at this theater which was my first visit and what a pleasant experience. The theater is about 75 years old and is impeccably maintained. The interior is beautiful and the design very impressive, be sure to see the ceiling. Lighting, sound and acoustics are great, and the space between the rows of seats provides plenty of leg room.
The presentation of Evita was wonderful and demonstrated the care and creativity that City Center fosters.
All of the staff were cordial and welcoming, and quite efficient.

The city that never sleeps, I guess that's the beauty it gives when you visit New York City by day and/ or by night. If there is one thing I didn't like, it is the smell of cannabis from every street you go.

Lovely place to participate in Balanchine commemoration. Quality of show was exceptional, expensive though, but on this occasion worth it.

Had seats in the front row of the Gran Tier outstanding view however the theater is a smaller one and I believe every seat regardless of cost provides a very good review of the theater. I would probably stay away from the first few rows in the orchestra because it just to close to the stage and actually makes it easy to miss some of the movement. If you need more leg room however the first room of the orchestra might be useful. Or perhaps even better an aisle seat so if you are 6'3" like I am or taller you can more your feet into the aisle. Just be careful no one trips over your feet.

We just saw a revised version of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Evita. I saw the original Broadway Play 30+ years ago with Patty Lapone and Mandy Potemkin. This new version was in my eyes an equal to the original with more focus on Evita as an individual. Even to the point of employing a young actress to play the 15 year old Eva who was seduced in her home time at the start of the story. The New York City Center is an excellent venue for a play (we recently saw Meatloaf’s “Bat out of Hell” musical there, but you need to stay on top of their offerings because they tend to have short run-times.

From the center front clear sightlines, but far. Further up, it is steep and very far from stage. Stay away from the sides because part of the view will be cut off.

Can you tell me about the balcony seats? I'm looking to go this September for a show balcony seats are $49.00@--were they decent seats?

Ok now I recognize this theatre. The play I attended was just a room, and the theatre has many theatres, but I believe them to be on the small side. Although there are dance offerings, so those theatres may be larger?

I want to see Diana Ross at the new York city center on April 29, but I only have money for balcony seats. How are the balcony seats

Ouch, they are pretty far back but if that's all you can get and you want to see her, just bring binoculars.
