Overview
More
The Shubert Theatre had its genesis in the New Theatre, an "art" playhouse located on Central Park West that was devoted to serious repertory drama. Although the project was a critical and commercial flop, the New Theatre Group, which included Lee Shubert, leased a plot of land between 44th and 45th street to construct a new venue. The plan was abandoned, but Lee Shubert and Winthrop Ames, a former New Theatre partner, acquired a lease for the site, and built two adjoining playhouses there. Lee and J.J. operated the larger of the two auditoriums, which they named the Sam S. Shubert Memorial Theatre to commemorate their brother, who had died in May 1905. Ames managed the smaller Booth Theatre. Lee chose to build an office/apartment above the theatre, which is now the location of the Shubert Organization's executive offices.

Words cannot express how wonderful these seats were. I was afraid when I realized that row AA and A were the orchestra. Fear not!!! These seats were still perfect. Bette stood right in front of us. The dancers periodically came to the front of the...More

The Schubert is a very nice theater. I found the seats more comfortable and 1/16th of an inch more spacious than most of the other Broadway theaters. The real gem was seeing Bette Midler in Hello Dolly. Bette, David Hyde Pierce and the entire cast...More

We saw Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce star in this show and it was wonderful! Got standard rush tickets directly at the theater box office a few hours before the show for a decent price. The theater itself is beautiful, but inconvenient. We had...More

We bought tix to see Hello Dolly as we had missed Bette Midler her first time around. Seats were surprisingly roomy and had enough leg room a few rows up in the balcony. Sitelines were good except for the front of the thrust stage that...More

Though not my favorite musical, I've seen "Hello Dolly" with Carol Channing, Betty Grable, and Ethel Merman, but not one came close to Bette Midler's performance last Thursday. She and David Hyde Piece brought the house down despite the initial distraction of a political celebrity's...More

The house manager on July 20th helped my husband and I with a problem with our seats. Thank you very much for making our evening and trip. The show was fantastic!

BETTE MIDLER is a Total Diva at 72 years of age dancing and with a voice and facial expressions that enthralled the audience and shows why she won the Tony in the last year... Really worth the cost of good seating to see her in...More

Saw hello dolly with Bette midler was amazing. The chemistry with the cast was on spot. Disappointed that Bette was the only one who didn’t come out after the show two nights in a row

As wonderful as the house manager and staff of the Richard Rogers Theatre (where Hamilton is playing) are, the staff of The Shubert Theatre (where Hello, Dolly is playing) is their complete opposite. My husband uses a walker, and as we walked up to the...More
