I am still singing songs! Lots of Razzle Dazzle!!! Small theater, ladies room very, very small. Long lines. Too bad they can’t add another bathroom!Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 September 2023

Theatre staff not friendly with man outside barking at people and staff around the place really grumpy. Very small seats with no leg room but it is an old theatre. Wine served in plastic souvenir cup very expensive, over $60 for 2Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 February 2024
- TennisStar602New Jersey704 contributionsMy mother and I saw the Broadway Show, “Chicago”, here.I went to see the show, “Chicago”, with my mother. We enjoyed this show, and this area was very busy. This theater was located very close to Times Square and to Rockefeller Center. This theater had several floors, and the lines for the bathroom could get very long. The seats could have had more legroom, but they were comfortable. There were concessions and gifts to purchase as well as some ticket booths. I would encourage guests to arrive early in order to become ready for the show.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 February 2024
- ChristieLynnSASan Antonio, Texas77 contributionsThe cast and musicians are fabulousI knew we’d enjoy seeing Chicago on Broadway, and was not disappointed. My 20-year-old daughter had not even seen the movie. It was great fun seeing her grin, laugh and cheer all night. I imagine, like all Broadway theatres, the Ambassador is small and cozy. We had great seats but would have been perfectly fine further back or on the side. The staff usher you smoothly through concessions before the show and during intermission (including free soda refills). The women’s restroom (upstairs) is the only downside. My daughter missed part of the show after intermission because of the long line. The cast and musicians are fabulous. There’s nothing like seeing them in person!Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 June 2024
- happybrits_941 contributionsGreat show & staff, toilet warning…..Loved the show. Staff were friendly. BUT if you are female be quick to the loo queue or be prepared to miss the beginning of the second half. ENORMOUS line (& the theatre was not even full). Not what I expected after buying a ticket at Broadway prices.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 July 2024

I will begin by saying I have attended a Chicago performance in Edinburgh several years ago and was blown away by the entire experience. The performers , the music , the razzle dazzle costumes which all transported me to the time and place. Unfortunately not quite so last night.
We excitedly booked and paid over $300 for 2 tickets (side view) and duly waited in anticipation to feel ‘blown away’. Yes the cast were talented ... however the costume were practically non existsnt. The female actors appeared in upgraded leotards of varying cuts! I can only suggest this look was a ‘hip modern’ translation to suit modern day. Yuck. We left just before the interval. Underwhelmed and poorer. The producers/directors are surely missing the point of the period musical. It’s a no from me

The show Chicago was superb and the seats were comfortable enough. However I feel compelled to write about the price of drinks. We ordered 2 gin and tonic and one wine and this came to a total of $90! I was completely flabbergasted when we were told total. We paid as drinks had been poured but had we known total proof we wouldn’t have ordered any. Compared to London west end prices I felt this cosy was excessive and off putting.

We are British and this was our third visit to NYC. We regularly watch theatre in London’s West End. Brought our teenage daughters to see Chicago. Will happily never visit Broadway again. From the barking orders outside, to having to show photo ID as well as vaccination status to be allowed to enter, absolutely the worst part of this visit was the ridiculous people employed to wave signs saying ‘mask up,’ and this included marching down the aisles and obscuring others’ view (mid performance) to tell me to hitch my mask further up my nose. Note, it is only possible for them to single out people sitting at the end of a row. They can’t reach the people in the middle of a row. I’d love to know the science behind this. During the interval, my husband bought a glass of wine. He was also approached by these people, who berated him because he had removed his mask to drink his wine. It appears that you can only remove your mask if you are actually swallowing fluid. So, you have to replace your mask between sips. Having jumped through several complicated and costly hoops in order to visit the USA, this was all quite ridiculous because we had all tested negative two days previously. AND we all had covid shortly before travelling! The approach taken by this theatre is frankly ridiculous a s aggressive. Go elsewhere.

The Ambassador theater is a beautiful venue to see a play or musical. While many theaters have very cramped seats the Ambassador feels more spacious and the seats less cramped. Overall, it is a great experience regardless of what you come to see at this theater.

I went to this theatre with my husband to watch "Chicago" in celebration of our 10th anniversary and, even though the performance was absolutely amazing, an employee named Leonard completely ruined our night. During intermission, he came to me in na authoritarian mood, pointing and saying "You need to leave". Apparently, I was staying in a place where part of the staris was being blocked – which I completely understand. My point is that he shouldn’t be talking to me as if I was some sort of criminal. When I pointed out that, on the other side of the bar, the line of people was already completely blocking the stairs, he just replied "That's not my problem because I'm not in charge of that other area, but I'm in charge of this area and YOU have to leave". At that point, he was already raising his voice, so people started looking at us. I can't stress enough how disappointed I am in being treated this way. I have to say that I was wearing a yellow turban that night, so it was pretty obvious to everyone I was a foreigner - and I really think his reprimand was so aggressive because he saw me as a foreigner. I couldn't even get his full name. I only saw his first name was Leonard, but then he covered his badge when I tried getting his surname (and again started yelling "Why do you want my name"?). Again, people started looking at us. I felt discriminated against and humiliated. Not to mention powerless. The only thing I can do is make bad reviews on every single possible platform to advise people to think twice before going to the Ambassador – particularly if you’re a foreigner wearing ethnic clothes.

Built in 1921, designed for people of 1921 size. My wife and I are fairly normal sized people. Not fat not skinny, not tall not short. Pretty much average. The seats in this theater are not designed for normal people as this may be the most cramped theater I've ever been to in my life. I felt like I had to sit somewhat sideways to be comfortable and if someone needed to get up to use the bathroom, good luck.
I am giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because I am acknowledging that the theater is from 1921, but I think a new seating arrangement may be in order for the comfort of the guests. Don't need to change the décor, just the spacing to something more in line with every other theater on Broadway.

The theatre is like other theaters on Broadway in NYC, crowded, small seats with very little leg room, long line for bathroom before play and during intermission, however they are fairly organized and clean. . They get everyone seated on time and proper-polite behavior is encouraged and was observed by everyone present during my visit July 2nd. I enjoyed the play ( Chicago)very much.

Outstanding staff! My husband got injured while on vacation and was hobbling around on crutches and the stage manager was so incredibly kind and helpful. She moved us and out friends to a more accessible part of the theater. We saw Chicago with Pamela Anderson starring and the show was fantastic, but it made the entire experience that much better. The venue itself is beautiful and intimate and we will definitely return for another show the next time we’re in town.

Enjoy the play nice older theater, love the chandelier even with a couple burned out bulbs. Seats were small and aisles very narrow, uncomfortably narrow. Had rear Mezzanine seats would recommend orchestra based on the configuration of the theater

Someone told me you can buy souvenir mugs with wine in - is this true?

We were there last July first and we had beer in plastic cups that had the Chicago Logo on them since this is what we were seeing. I’m not sure about a “Mug”, but plastic glasses for sure. The bar is spendy so if you are going to do some serious drinking I’d do most of it outside the theater!

Do they have a checkroom? Could I store a carry-on 20' suitcase at the theatre since I will leave New York right after going to the theatre. Thank you.

We are going to see Chicago at the Ambassador. We can get tickets, first row, center, front mezzanine. We are wondering if there is a railing that you have to look over. Is the railing going to obstruct the view of the stage?

Be aware the show is performed in front of an on stage orchestra with NO costume or scene changes...
