Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Went to see Frozen. My son is 6’5” and his knees were literally in his throat. I noticed 4 empty seats in the level below us. I begged the usher to let us move and she radioed to someone and they said only if we paid another $260. They didn’t care my sons knees were hitting the little girl in front of him. I have been to many theaters but this is terribly small. Also only 2 stalls per rest room. The line was outrageous during the 15 minute intermission that they were sending women into the men’s room when that line finally ended. Needless to say many didn’t get to use the restroom during the intermission. Never again

This theater that’s almost 100 years old looked great. It was small and cozy and the perfect place to see American Utopia. The sound quality was perfect. The sight lines were great.
I think the seating is cramped, but I had a seat that minimized that by being in the front of the section and on an aisle.
The staff were relentless about making sure people were masking up, which is a good thing.

I bought a partial view ticket (mezz right, row C, seat 30) but with this show being staged mostly on the front half of the stage I didn’t actually miss anything. The seats are small but not the smallest on Broadway by any means. In the mezzanine, being on the aisle means you’ll be crammed up against the handrails. The show was great!

On 6/14, I attended a matinee performance of New York New York! I really enjoyed my time at the show. It’s always great to see an original musical! I found myself invested in most characters and was impressed by the execution of the beautiful choreography. Definitely recommend!

This was to be our 4th Broadway theater show while in New York City. Four of us went here on Saturday, December 30, 2023. We were at the 2PM show. The theater is a grand old one from the heyday of vaudeville and still looks great. As usual with these old theaters, the seats are somewhat cramped, but the sight lines are great from anywhere. We sat in the balcony at the very top row, yet it was still awesome. Also easy to go to the restrooms as it was right across the hall at the top level. For men, even with a line it was a five minute wait. For women, maybe 15 minute, pretty good compared to other theaters we have been to.
Spamalot was so well done, based on the Monty Python movies with many of the best scenes from them, yet the play flowed well with a continuous theme. I haven't laughed out loud so much at a play in a very, very long time. Music was wonderful, we even had a sing along led by the cast at the end. "Always look on the bright side of life". Fun, fun, fun. Bravo, bravo to theater staff and cast. Loved it, loved it.

Saw New York, New York there last week. The mayor of NYC was at the same performance and made a great post-show speech. The choreography, sets, costumes, and music are extremely well done. Anna Uzele is outstanding as Francine. Her version of the title song brought the crowd to its feet! The story line is much like On The Town, but with social relevance. The St. James is a beautiful old theater.

The St James is a lovely theater, but the seats are so small. The ushers were very hospitable and helpful. We were there to see Into the Woods. Everything about the show was perfect, the acting, the songs, the set and the orchestra were all amazing. I’d see it again in a heartbeat.

The theater was great, small venue so everyone has great seats. We were on the mezzanine level and the seats were perfect. The show was amazing and this show has so maybe special effects. I never seen a show like it. There are drinks and snacks available. Definitely worth seeing.

We saw Something Rotten, but this review is of the St. James theatre not the show (reviews separately). As with all NYC theaters I have been to seats are close together side to side and front to back. We sat in Orchestra center, Row Q, seats 111 & 112. These were great seats, we were able to see the actors faces well. They are under the balcony which is low. Didn't effect viewing in any way for Something Rotten, only couldn't see top of the proscenium. If a show had a 2 story set, the top may be cut off. Bathrooms are down stairs and lobby was chaos with people trying to get down there. Sit on the aisle and jet out of the theatre as soon as the lights go down at intermission to get down there and avoid the mess. There are a fair number of stalls in the women's restroom.

We went here to watch Frozen the Musical. I have reviewed the show in a separate review as this is about the theatre. (But the show is INCREDIBLE!)
The theatre is a lovely, large theatre. We were seated on the first level, 7 rows back in the centre and what a view. You could see the entire stage as well as surrounding for other lighting effects. The only drawback we said was sat at this height, you are looking directly down onto the stage and can see whenever something is going to happen as trapdoors open as scenery or people pop through so you lose that element of surprise but I am just being picky!
The prices of drinks are absolutely extortionate. You have to buy your first drink in a special, plastic themed mug which sets you back $5 per drink before you have even filled it! But, you are on a night out so just go with it and have fun!

Bonjour

Hi there
Does anyone know the name of an Asian restaurant that was (or is, if still there) walking distance of the St. James Theatre in 2001? I believe that was where The Producers was performed. I cannot recall the name of the restaurant. Thank you
