Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This Memorial is harrowing and freaky. With that, you understand the nature of their business that has cost many lives through the years.
Extremely well-done sculpture that is quite moving. make sure to see it if you are visiting Battery Park.

We were on a self-guided tour of all the memorials in Battery Park and absolutely loved this one! So impactful how the creator incorporated the water into the memorial itself!

The water lapping up on the figure in the water was haunting....I found it very moving. And beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite experiences of my trip to NYC.
The plaque said they were on a ship that had been torpedoed and they all ended up perishing after all. Crew on the U-Boat were photographing them. Just heartbreaking.
It's down in Battery Park. I had never heard of it before and was just walking around one rainy Sunday later afternoon. Saw some guys looking at something out in the water so went to investigate.
It was gut wrenching yet also in a way made me feel proud of all of the Americans that have sacrificed so much in the past, present, and future to try to keep the world free.
That's Ellis Island across the water in my photo.

Make a point to check out this very arresting sculpture honoring those forever lost at sea. It changes depending on the tides.

Very poignant memorial to the Merchant Mariner's who have sacrificed a lot in service. The memorial is easy to miss if there are long lines waiting for the boat to the Statue of Liberty.

Quietly sat on the small pier at the edge of battery park, you could almost miss this powerful and clever sculpture

The American merchant mariners statute in lower Manhattan is really gripping. The lapping water in the piece of the statute in the sea brings this to life! Amazing.

I really like this monument as it’s very striking and well constructed. It’s a very gripping design and falls naturally into the water. Highly recommended. .

This memorial has been ingeniously done to pay tribute to the merchant mariners who lost their lives at sea. As the tides ebb and flow the sculpture reveals a sailor been grasped by the hands of a fellow sailor. A beautiful and moving memorial.
