- MartyParty4Houston, Texas1,923 contributionsDon’t miss!Went to this show for our anniversary weekend. Found it to be incredible. The leads were amazing. It was entertaining with great energy throughout the performance. We had front row balcony seating and could see all angles as the set is huge with a walking stage out into the lower audience. New modern songs thrown into the performance were great additions. Would definitely come back again and bring our university age daughters.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 October 2023
- Erin TWashington DC, District of Columbia178 contributionsTruly a spectacular spectacular. The sets and the music were spectacular! So well done, and great updates and modernization since the movie came out, what 29 years ago? The cast was so talented - I was impressed with Andre Ward, David Harris, Sophie Carmen-Jones, and especially Oyoyo Joi. I was underwhelmed by Casey Cott, who came across as lacking presence and a bit too silly for the male lead. Tituss Burgess took me a while, but by the end, I was a fan of him as Zidler - his voice in the solo showed amazing range. I am so glad we saw this!!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 November 2023
- Chris BSpalding, United Kingdom94 contributionsBest musical we have ever seenMoulin Rouge the musical on Broadway is simply the best musical my wife and I have ever seen. All the cast are superb, the dancing well - choreographed, and the singing top class. We didn`t want it to finish!Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 November 2023
- AB59 contributionsVery goodBroadway 3rd Jan 2024 Good points: Great costumes that sparkled, good dancing, great bedroom set and background setting of stars and scenery, good singing, good on health and safety by warning people about bags in rows. Bad points: Maybe it was because I was tired in general but it went on a bit long, some of the song choices I didn't like eg 'single ladies.' The statue of the elephant didn't move or anything, some of the humor was cringy like doing accidental sex positions.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 14 January 2024
- Greggy123Singapore, Singapore413 contributionsSimply wonderful. Magnifique as they would say in Montmartre! One of the best shows I have ever seen! And I have seen a few! We had seats near the front - so you felt in the action for sure. I was blown away. And found the show very emotional - the story, the performances and the whole experience. Would go back again. And again. And again. Bravo. Totally magnificent broadway classic!Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 11 February 2024

- tim hDublin, Ireland93 contributionsMagical musical experience on BroadwayAn absolutely wonderful experience on Broadway. This show is a must see. Being a big fan of Baz Luhrmans movie, my expectations were high, but I was still blown away with this performance. Fantastic music and dancing, and the core storyline from the movie was honoured and woven into a more up to date line up of songs, yet holding on to the classics from the movie. Truly magical experience and we will definitely go again...and again, and again....Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024

- Niki HSan Francisco, California4 contributionsOverall a great showOverall just a great time. Most of the performers were absolutely sensational. I will say that the lead, Satine, just did not have the stage presence/star power of many of the other cast members. She did seem to get more comfortable as the night went on, but I aside from a powerful voice I didn't feel that she brought a lot to the show and in some ways detracted from the bar set by others. The male leads were all outstanding. The dancers were clearly talented, but looked like they could have used a lot more rehearsing to get in synch and feel perform at the level I would expect from a broadway show. And one of the dancers did not seem to give a you know what. She came across as pretty unprofessional and maybe not even trained in dance. Very strange. But the staging was wonderful, the costumes (except weirdly Satine's) were outstanding and the pace of the show esp the first half is exhilarating.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 17 June 2024
- Karen7 contributionsAmazing- and i have seen lotsExcellent from start to finish. Faultless and i have seen ALOT of shows. Very clever, amazing costumes, great voices, stage changes and a very clever adaptation of the original story. A jukebox of songs throughout. I could not stop smiling and time flew. The audience were captivated. Totally. The orchestra- wow. And the leads, spot on. WELL DONE! I will need to see it again!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 July 2024

I surprised my wife with a trip to NYC and got Moulin Rouge tickets as she's a massive fan and has probably watched the film 100 times or more; she even has the movie cast signed poster. To say she was excited was an understatement. To say she's disappointed having watched it last night is so stomach wrenching. Seeing her face when it started was like watching a kid in a candy store. Seeing her face 30 minutes later was heartbreaking as the realisation that they got the stage show wrong hit home.
Don't get me wrong, the set was amazing as was the cast but why change the story? Why change the iconic songs? Where was the love story? Why change some of the little details? I know the director probably wanted to put their spin on it but the film's a classic and the changes just ruined it. As a fan of the original Star Wars, it feels like what they did with the new films was what's happened here. They messed with the formula too much and ruined the magic.
I honestly would give this a rating of 4/10 and I've seen dozens of West End shows and this was by far the worst I've seen.
Such a shame and I hope when it comes to the UK they revert some of the changes back....at least we still have the blu-ray!

Just saw the stage show in Chicago. Absolutely nothing new or original in this overstuffed jukebox musical. Totally commercialized with the world’s most cliche and flimsy plot that’s been done many times before (does the beautiful Satine choose the evil rich guy to save the show or the young, poor, talented bohemian who is her true love?) I think we know the answer. And in making the choice does Satine die in her true love’s arms at the end of the show and does her dead body get carried offstage (of course). Gee, never saw that one done before. The makers of this wretched and cheesy musical paid a zillion dollars to get the music rights to as many high profile and successful pop songs as possible so they could cram them all into this trite and flimsy plot for audience recognition and acceptance of proven pop hits. Bravo! A bunch of Tony Awards and packed houses later Moulin Rouge is a great success. Well you can’t argue with revenue received I guess. I’m no stuck up highbrow theater goer longing for the old days of West Side Story or The Music Man. I loved Prom, Hairspray, and jukebox musicals like Beautiful and Jersey Boys. You can keep this bubblegum and very forgettable jukebox musical. If this all sounds like the show for you knock yourself out. Seems like everyone else in the theater loved it. Not me.

WOW- we have seen many musicals and all rock musicals, Mama Mia, Tina, Motown, Margaritaville,Jersey Boys etc... Moulin Rouge has now surpassed Jersey Boys as wifes fav. Best set ever, so many rock songs placed perfectly, good plot, Leads, singers, dancers the best. So glad Broadway is opening up again. While seats were not available at TKTS, we were able to score at the box office for same day. If you want a top notch rollicking show, this is the one. PS Hamilton of course is still our all time favorite.

We've seen several musicals on Broadway over the years and this was one of our favorites. The sets were great and the cast really shined. Our favorite part was the incorporation of modern songs. The show really outshined the movie and we can't wait to see it again.

Moulin Rouge the show was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. The performances were simply stunning, the stage sets, the choreography, the singing, lighting, stage management, unbelievable.
However, my reason for giving this show only 2 is NOTHING to do with the show AT All.
Unfortunately for us that’s where our wonderful experience ended! Travelling from the UK and taking a show in on Broadway has been on our bucket list for years, as myself and my wife we both suffer with chronic osteoarthritis, we along with most of the audience were subjected from the start with a woman usher I can only describe as authoritarian and bullish, rudely shout at my wife to turn her phone off when when she was actually turning her phone off!! For the next 2hrs 40+ minutes of the show we had to ensure literally sitting in a refrigerator! The air conditioning was right over us and full on, blasting away constantly. An usher was informed but nothing happened to change our ordeal! We sat there in the theatre freezing! On leaving we wanted to take some photos of the stage and then a burly mountain of a security guy then rudely told us and others to leave immediately or be thrown out! Now come on!!! We spoke to the manager who apologised for our situation and the rudeness of staff and said she would deal with it. As for the freezing air conditioning, let’s just say nothing will be done!!
Appalling customer service and customer care. Sort out your air conditioning.

Sad, sad , sad. I'd seen Moulin Rouge six months prior and was so impressed, I brought two clients to the Saturday, September 9th performance. A lady next to me let out an audible sigh when she read that Satine was being played by an understudy.
Needless-to-say, by the end of the first act, my client looked at me and said he'd seen community theatre leading ladies perform better. He was dead on: this woman had no grace, no stage presence, no charm or apparent acting ability.
The 2nd act was just as brutal; highlighted by Satine's subtle display of her handkerchief coated in blood. This particular scene typified her inability to act. It reminded me of a 7th grader at show and tell; not someone who is trying to hide her affliction.
Did I say brutal? What a waste of time and money. Wasn't there 1,000 other potential actresses who could have filled in that night?

My wife and I watched Moulin Rouge in January 2020. It was a very enjoyable Broadway show. The singing, dancing and staging were fantastic. Almost all of the songs were well known hits - Patti LaBelle, Adele, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Elton John and many others.

What should have been one of the highlights of our trip was spoilt by overly aggressive staff.
Shouting orders in our faces yes we know to have bags open yes we will move as fast
As possible even though disabled using a walking stick!
Every interaction with the paying audience involved aggressive shouting.
This is not the norm had been to see Call From Away days before where staff were
Efficient and still managed to be respectful and welcoming.
If this had been my first experience of broadway it would definitely be my last.
I am 62 grey haired and none threatening to anyone so can not find any justification for their conduct

The film is one of my favourites and I was so excited to get tickets to see it on our trip to New York. My initial excitement entering the theatre was heightened seeing the set and cast pre-ambling. The opening was powerful but after that it lost its way, diverting from the original movie score, cutting songs short and substituting more contemporary tracks in what seemed like an attempt to pander to a different audience - mash-ups that were mere karaoke at best.
What didn’t help was the unnecessary whooping & screaming from parts of the audience that seemed more directed towards who the actors were rather than the characters. I am not familiar with the cast but it seems half the audience were and we’re more enamoured with them than the characters.
The set and staging was generally good but if you are a fan of the film, keep your expectations low, it can then only be better
I was so disappointed

Broadway is back! And this is a must see.
You need to show proof of Vax, ID, and wear a mask throughout the entirety of your visit.
This all subject to change, as restrictions are lifted periodically.
The Hirschfield theatre is over 200 yrs old, You’d never know.. It is beautiful.
A very sexy cast, the songs so perfectly synced( I wanted so badly to sing along,I did but silently).
The energy was palpable.
Christain, Satine( that voice!) and Santiago( for some odd reason ,his character reminded me of Gaston( sleeping beauty) were our favs.
So hey sistas , hey brothas, make your way to the Moulin Rouge!!

Where should I buy a ticket at a reasonable price and what seat should I get?
Thanks
Written 15 September 2019
We purchased our tickets back in March. Due to the positive reviews etc, getting tickets may be expensive. Ticketmaster is the safest vendor for tickets, IMO. The theater is small with really no bad seats except the ones that are right next to the stage.
