Thumbs up from a non Potter fan
My partner is mad on HP. I can take it or leave it so maybe my opinion won’t match some here. As someone completely impartial and with no connection to the original characters I thought this was entertaining enough. The effects are amazing. I think 3 hours is too long but other than that it’s a solid show. Can’t understand why people are upset about gay undertones - they were so subtle that if that upsets anyone they need to give their head a wobble. Don’t get upset their kids are watching scary dementors and loud bangs but do because 2 boys simply briefly hug. Have a word.

    Great show!
We watched the showed recently when visiting New York, this show is great, if you love Harry Potter and have read the books or watched the films you will totally understand the plot. We had great seats which we managed to purchase the morning of the show! We felt for the dress circle these were great valve for money!

    A bit dissapointing
You can really tell this is a shortened version. The start has actors saying their lines so fast you can barely catch what is going on. Harry, unfortunately, was a real let down. Steven Haggard seems to have earnt the lines and that's it, no stage presence at all. Scorpions was definitely the stand out.

If you can get tickets, make sure you go
It would have been 6 out of 5 but there was no Harry potter themed music which was disappointing! I'm guessing that was something to do with copyright or something. Truly amazing show though. Amazing special effects (maybe even real magic because some of it was unreeaaaaal!) I would 100% recommend it to anyone and everyone

Really amazing show! Bravo! The special effects were awesome and it was a bit long but well worth it! We got ticktesto sit in the orchestra last minute the day before at the tkts booth in Times Square and was well worth it. Definitely a must see broadway show and won’t be disappointed!

Amazing, Out of this world, Run, don't walk and get your tickets
I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child last night and it completely blew me out of this world. I have seen Hadestown, Phantom of the Opera, and Moulin Rouge, and however much I loved those, Harry Potter has officially taken 1st place, this is a show I would pay double to go see again.I have seen the movies but I’m not a crazy harry potter fan and I still loved every second of the show. I do recommend to watch the movies before seeing the show, it definitely helps you understand everything better. The show itself was amazingly done. The way the effects were done were worth seeing the show just by itself. I can say confidently if you took a young child to see this show you can convince them magic exists, because I have never seen such amazing live effects done so beautifully. The plot itself was also spectacular, there were plot twists you didn’t see coming and the actors played their part perfectly. The show overall was just perfection, sometimes I get up from watching a show, or even a movie and I say to myself “I wish they did this” but there is nothing I would change because words can’t even describe how amazing this broadway show is. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is what broadway is. If you are in New York and want to experience a broadway show, go see Harry Potter and the Cursed child, and if you live in New York, RUN, don’t walk and buy your tickets before the show closes. All in all, I wish I can give this show 100 standing ovations but in truth that won’t even be enough to applaud everyone and everything that put this together.

    Awesome play. Not a musical.
The special effects were incredibly fantastic. The actors were so-so. They spoke much too fast in disingenuous British accents and their acting skills are not the greatest. Some characters are misrepresented and not in keeping with the much loved Harry Potter series’s characters. It was however a good experience and made for a fun afternoon in New York City.

A perfect end to a rainy day
We are so glad we booked to see this show. Sitting down for breakfast we hadnt decided what show we were going to see that evening. It was a particulary rainy day and we were very lucky to get 2 of the last seats available for that evenings performance. The effects were great and we were talking about the show for days afterwards. :)

    Hard to hear dialogue but...
If you're at all hard of hearing some of the actors do not know how to project especially the young ones. I missed a lot of dialogue. They actually face away from the audience and talk to the other characters on the stage. It's just so annoying to watch a Broadway show where the actors don't know how to act on stage HOWEVER, the staging and the technical part of it the magical scenes are 5 stars. Still if you're a fan I would tell you not to miss it.

    what just happened?
Kids wanted to see this. There were some good effects. Sound quality was not great. Seats are not great and I had my view obscured by a guy sitting two (!) rows in front of me. The story seemed crammed together and way too fast. My kids liked it though, I thought it was incoherent and really inconsistent in quality.

The lounge experience added to the magic that is Harry Potter.

My friend purchased the lounge by happenstance rather than design, so we went in with no expectations. The lounge is a small room in the basement of the theatre that seemed to accommodate about 40 people. There were 2 servers.

With the additional price, you get a complimentary drink at the start of Part I (for us, this was the Wednesday matinee) and Part II (Wednesday evening performance). You can take your drink with you into the theatre, and the lounge will pre-take your order for each intermission.

The lounge had a small buffet. Before the matinee, this included lox, veggies, and fruit, and fruit and cookies were available during both intermissions. Before Part II, there was a charcuterie tray with meats, cheeses, and veggies.

There is also a private coat check area and dedicated bathrooms.

The two servers were funny and worked well together to meet the needs of everyone. I am super glad that we stumbled upon this experience.

The magic effects in this show are amazing. However, that cannot make up for the fact that the actors are simply terrible. Nicholas Podany as Albus Potter and Bubba Weiler as Scorpius Malfoy are almost comically bad. They act in such an exaggerated way, it almost seems like the play is intended as an SNL parody. What is also lacking is J.K. Rowlings brilliant writing- theres no trace of it in the play. I dont know about you but I dont want a Harry Potter production filled with bad slapstick and cheap jokes. Every true Potter fan should be offended that this is what they came up with- especially for the astronomical prices.

Such a fantastic sequel to the Harry Potter series. Amazingly well executed. The magic is magical. All the actors, even those with minor parts, do an exceptional job. Father-son relationships are always complex, even more so with a famous father. You totally understand each one's perspective but are wishing hard that they could see it from the other point of view. The script is gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat to see how it unfolds. The audience was very engaged and laughter, gasps, and applause accompanied the show. All in all, a truly magical event.

This play was wonderful both from a story perspective and as a special effects/technical experience. My family are all Harry Potter fans and I genuinely felt the play maintained the magic of the stories. We saw both shows in one day - on a Sunday. There are 20 minute intermissions during each show and about 2.5 hours between shows. We felt the time went quickly and none of the children around us or the teenagers in our group seemed restless. We went out to dinner between shows and walked around which helped. The play itself was incredible with great acting and truly amazing special effects. You do need to know the Harry Potter stories to appreciate the play - and enjoy all the references to the books and characters.

The Lyric Theatre has been renovated beautifully for this production. The show was amazing (and long (2 separate shows running about 2.5 hours each)). The special effects were exceptional and some of them will really have you scratching your head wondering "how did they do that?". The actors really carried the play emotionally and with great acting-they made you believe in the script. I won't go into details about the show (no spoiler alerts here!) but it's an easy "must see" for Harry Potter fans. That's the catch...I feel you really must know Harry Potter mythology (films or books) to truly understand this show-it's a continuation of the Harry Potter story set 19 years in the future after the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows story.

Took a weekend trip with my girlfriend to New York to see the show. From the moment you walk into the theater to the end of the Part 2, the entire experience has my full attention. I was thoroughly impressed with every second. STRONGLY RECOMMEND

I thought this production was worth every penny. I had some background knowledge of the story, and my son had read all the books and seen all the movies. I am lost at the comments about the "fake" accents, as I am from England and was surprised to read the programme to find that none of them were actually British, so they did a fantastic job with the accents in my opinion.

The special effects were spectacular, and working as tech at a local theatre company, I could really appreciate how good they were, and the sound was excellent.

Yes it is a long production at 1.5hrs for each of the two acts, but that can be researched in advance and shouldn't be a surprise to anybody.

The only thing that I found annoying was that if people are not able to get into their seats before the show starts, then they should have to wait until an appropriate time to be seated. At such an expensive price per ticket nobody should have to miss any of the show because of late arrivals walking across the front of them, or making people get out of their seats so that they can pass to get to theirs, it's not the cinema!

I loved the show! We did parts one and two on the same day and there was enough time to get dinner in between. The special effects are amazing. I liked the comedic aspect of the show. Others have commented that wasn’t true JK Rowling’s, but I thought it kept a LONG play from being tiresome. The Aldus character was spot on as a teenager, Scorpious character did a great job acting and Harry Potter looked and acted like you would expect a grownup Harry Potter too. You will be absolutely lost if you don’t know the Harry Potter books, so read them first. Pay the money for good seats, this is a once in a lifetime experience. This cost us a small fortune, a bit like a plane trip to Europe from USA and back, but so worth it!

This was an absolutely wonderful experience! I went to both parts in one day, which for my right schedule worked perfectly. All the staff at the Lyric were absolutely wonderful, the cast was so talented. I especially loved the actor who played Scorpius Malfoy, very talented. The show experience itself can’t be beat. It’s a great story that brings you back to JKs Wizarding World with some truly amazing visuals. 100% recommend

We got scammed by broadway. 400$ per seat we paid for mediocre at best performances along with a story line that fell flatter than a pancake. SUCH a disappointment. Don’t waste your money. No singing, no dancing, no pit orchestra (NO live music). Weak story and acting- my high school, gave better performances than this!!!! Seriously lazy and just another example of people wanting to make money off of stupid people like me :(
