Whilst not the most exciting attraction in NYC the ferry is free and this is a rare thing when you visit. Make sure you give it a go, it's easy to use and gets you a great view of the city from the river and the Statue of Liberty too!

If your on a budget and looking to see the lower part of the city from the water, including Lady Liberty, this is your FREE ride. We visited on Wed, Nov 30 and the weather was rainy and nasty, but the views from the ferry were still very fine. Take another transit method to the Whitehall stop (a long fly... More

I read up on this so it was a bit of an adventure. Get yourself down to battery park. From there you can catch the Staten Island ferry which runs every 30 minutes. This takes you right past the Statue of Liberty and presents some fantastic photo opportunities. Get off on Staten Island and whilst waiting for a return ferry... More

If you are in New York and want some nice views of Statue of Liberty and the NYC Skyline then you have to do this. With it being free to it's something I recommend people to do. A couple of local New Yorker's have told me that it may be not be free in a few years so cherish it... More

It is free to all and takes about 30 minutes overall. Unfortunately for me, it was raining very hard the day I visited but was worth the trip as long as I was downtown anyway.

Very efficiently organised and runs every half hour. Amazingly free and what a good view of Manhattan. You have to get off to get on again but that is not too onerous. The metro stop is feet from the ferry too.

Taken on November 10th 2016 So good that its for nothing, takes no time to get across the bay and gives you great views of New York and really helps you get your bearings. Amazing views of the Manhattan Skyline, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

I wanted to go on the Staten Island ferry after seeing it in Sex and the City! I had been informed that there was nothing on Staten Island really, but the ferry does go past the Statue of Liberty (not really close but you can see it if you sit on the right hand side of the boat going out... More

This is a great thing to do with kids. It is free, doesn't take too long and there are great views. We were lucky enough to meet a family who lived on Staten Island while we waited for the very and they took us under their wing and showed us the best way to get good views. The kids loved... More

We opted for the free ferry to get our view of Statue of Liberty. It was quite hectic, but all passengers managed to flow smoothly onto ferry. The view of the statue is fine IF you manage to get on the correct side of the ferry. Don't be swayed by other operators who are trying to sell you cruise tickets!
