free ferry from new york to staten island. beware of any scam, u dont need to pay anything because this service is free

so I took this ferry because it was in the wrong direction. I thought the ferry to liberty island also departs from this port, but I was wrong.

this little incident just adds to the experience.

ferry to staten island is free, so anyone can take it. along the way we can see the statue of liberty from afar. the ferry itself is quite comfortable.

just take this ferry to staten island, take a short walk there and then return to new york with the same ferry. lots of scams outside the the terminal offering ferry ticket. don't believe it. because the ferry ticket to staten island is completely free

Fantastic free experience!
Nov. 2021
This is, in my opinion, one of the best free activities to do in NYC. You get amazing views of the Manhattan skyline in both directions, and you can then walk around Staten Island for a bit when you get there. The ferries are frequent and take around 20 mins to make the journey. As I was jet lagged I got the ferry around 7am so was able to take pictures of the sun coming up over Manhattan which was fantastic. The ferries are clean and efficient, and one of the staff even offered to take photos of me which was appreciated as I was travelling alone. All in all, I highly recommend you take this trip once whilst you're in NY!

Second trip, first in the daytime

I took the SI Ferry years ago after dark, and it was a great experience; however, being able to see the Statue of Liberty in daylight was special as well. Love that it's free!

Staten Island Ferry for Statue of Liberty view
Oct. 2021
Took Staten Island Ferry for close view of Statue of Liberty. Close enough for us anyway, also get views of Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan. There is a shopping area once you get to Staten Island was mostly Gap, Nike, Lidz, sort of like an outlet area....but was fine. You can just ride ferry over, and then you have to get off and go back thru the entryway, but allows you to go right back across as well. Statue of Liberty is on West side of boat both ways, if that is your main attraction.

Free both ways, 25 minutes past the statue of liberty on your right. Stay on left on your way back. Not much else to see. Meuter Media

Free!

We took the ferry from Manhattan and back mostly to take a little cruise by the Statue of Liberty. Im so impressed that it’s free! You do have to exit the ferry and re-enter through the terminal waiting room to make the return trip. It was a chilly day so we stayed inside, but there is room to take in the view from outside if you like.

We took the Staten Island Ferry from the Battery( Manhattan) to Staten Island on a hot summer day. The ride was approximately 40 minutes round trip and you get an amazing view of the Statue of Liberty but let’s not forget taking the ferry is absolutely free! As a side note, when taking the ferry from Manhattan, sit on the right side, the views of the skyline are stunning.

Best kept secret for tourists!

We rode the ferry from the Battery to Staten Island and back. The views of lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, Queens, Brooklyn and the bridges were great. And it's free! The ferries run frequently enough that we only waited a few minutes to board and walked right onto a ferry back to Manhattan.
