We used the free ferry to have a view of the skyline. We departed 1 hr before sunset so we could photograph during the day on the way to staten Island and take sunset photos on the way back to Manhattan.

The Staten Island Ferry provides a great option to see the Statue of Liberty and the lower Manhattan skyline at no cost. The ferry runs every 30 minutes and is totally free. Ignore the touts outside the ferry terminal who will tell you that you can't see much from the ferry and that it is too crowded to get a... More

On the walk down to the Staten Island ferry, you'll get approached by loads of touts on commission who will try and confuse you into paying a lot of money to visit Ellis Island and see The Statue Of Liberty close up. If this is your goal, fine, pay your money and follow the crowds. However, if you want to... More

Like all the other comments, we did this as the best was to get photos of both the Statue and the Manhattan skyline. We weren't disappointed. Despite all the ticket touts telling us we should be going on the paid liberty tour, we stuck to our guns and got on this free ferry. As soon as we got to Staten... More

There's no cost involved, a little queuing but quick embarkation.. Great views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island... Not really good for pics though as you can't get outside and the windows, although large, aren't clean enough for photo quality...

Easy access to the Ferry, fast moving lines and an easy stress free way to see the Statue of Liberty close up.

Passing the statue of liberty on the way to Staten Island is a great experience. It was the first sign of America the thousands of people who emigrated to the States by boat in te last century, would see. Staten Island is a great contrast with Manhattan, it is like entering a

If you're a visitor to NYC then do take the Staten Island Ferry for the free trip to the other NY borough - that said it isn't, in my humble opinion, worth traipsing round when you get there - so you're as well to come back ASAP - the trip alone is the real treat - do check it out.

A free ferry! There's not much that is free in NYC but as a tourist this is a great way to see the Statue of Liberty without having to pay for it. Also you get a much better view than if you visit liberty island. It is busy so watch out for other tourists elbowing you in the head to... More

The ferry was free both ways and was an excellent opportunity to see new York from the river, the ferry was fun if packed but mostly with fellow tourists who we swapped places to visit. A good opportunity to sit back, relax and see the skyline
