Some friends were visiting me in NYC and we're looking for something new to do. I googled and found governor's island but had never been. Easy to get to on the 1 train but lots of friends for all the different ferries once you get there so had to ask a few guides for instructions. Ferry was affordable at $2... More

I've been wanting to go to Governors Island for awhile, it did not disappoint! We rented bikes, which are free for an hour in the morning at least on weekdays. There were food vendors. My daughter said on the weekends there's usually more activity with artists and more vendors, but I was content with what was there on a Friday... More

You have to take the ferry (which is $2) at Pier 1. What a difference with the busy city! It's the ideal spot to relax and to escape the busy centre At the pick nick area you have a nice view of the Statue of Liberty. It also offers you a beautiful view of New Jersey, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Especially... More

I have been visiting Governors Island since it first re-opened and have watched in awe at the changes they make each year. I look forward every year to the summer season and can't wait to ride bikes around the island with my son. It is now open on weekdays too if you want to feel a more private experience. They... More

Governors Island offers a unique view of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and parts of NJ. Nestled in the harbor, it's not the easiest place to visit, but the minor inconvenience is well worth it. wander, picnic, take photos, play frisbee, ride a bike, with none of the crowds seen in other major city parks.

A very short ferry trip from Manhattan. Can easily and quite quickly walk around the island. Loved reading about the history of the fort and castle - fascinating. The buildings on the island were beautiful but unfortunately not many open to the public.

We ferried over to the island. That is a great trip itself on a good weather day. Biking here is very easy and there are great sites. Tours of the fort and the jail are available. Great way to spend an iexpensive family or couple day.

Far and with many restrictions, this curiosity is very visible from the Staten Island ferries that traverse the Hudson.

Governor's Island is such a unique place. It's long been a defensive position for the New York harbor. It was property of the U.S. Army for a long time, although in the middle of the 20th century it was handed over to the Coast Guard. They had their east coast fleet headquarters there until the Clinton administration. It was later... More

It's a nice thing to do if you live in New York. It's free and it's something to do. You can rent a bike and ride around the island or you can also walk around the park. There is really not much to do unless they have some special events. If you are a tourist, I only recommended if you... More
